Noam Chomsky - New Atheists

'New Atheists' have emerged as one of the most potent forces for manufacturing consent for US foreign policy in younger generations.

A healthy proportion of young adults come to identify the scientific errors and so on in holy texts during their formative years. It's hardly a 'revolutionary' realisation, requiring rigorous intellectualism, that organised religion is all a bit silly.

The thing is, if this process of realisation is guided by people like Hitchens and Harris through books or, particularly nowadays, online video speeches, this coincides with 'memes' that infer support for state doctrine. Things like 'Islam is inherently evil', or that 'Islam itself is to blame' for the emergence of ISIS, rather than the Saudi-sponsered (our unshakeable ally) radical elements of the Iraqi insurgency following an illegal invasion and destruction of the country in 2003.

The phase at which young people start distancing from religion happens to coincide with their formative years when it comes to their political outlook on the world, so this is a highly effective instrument of propaganda, capitalising on vulnerable minds (coinciding with the destruction of a previous belief system, and the development of their political ideas).

Atheism isn't a revolutionary position. Chomsky isn't a theist, nor are the vast majority of scientists. 'New Atheism' is just a ploy to associate opposition to organised religion to opposition to the religion of the people being presently subordinated under the current wave neoconservative foreign policy.

Well, i'm an atheist. And i like both Sam harris an Richard Dawkins. We need people who do resist... But Neil degrasse tyson might have the best approach. (He might be agnostic.) He is more kind... And just put out logic and reason. Richard Dawkins also, but he might have a bit of an attitude, that's all. Anyways... We need outgoing atheists like these to get some science, logic and facts out there. ;)
And Richard Dawkins is against Islam because of the non-logic, etc.. And they (some) can't handle the truth about evolution as a fact, and some do resist against him.

question to the people in comments: do you think you are smarter and better educated than dawkins, harris, etc.? if not, why do you think your views are worth more than theirs? seems illogical to get upset over someone having a different view than yours, especially when they might be smarter than you (and therefore more likely to be correct)
