I also want to send out a huge thanks to Rick Underwood. This video had to be re-filmed due to several issues with the original footage. Rick did some incredible makeup for the first shoot, but sadly our schedules did not align for the reshoot and we weren’t able to feature his amazing work. Kathy stepped in and tried her very best to make me look like the living dead. I was already exhausted so it didn’t take much.

I would like to draw your attention to Kathy twitching each time Geoff hits a low note, pretty much embodying how we all react to those notes... 😄 (I caught two, 1:35 and 2:17, but maybe there are more…?)

Do yourselves a favour and watch this *at least* five times in a row, focusing on the whole ensemble and then each Geoff in turn. Each Geoff has his own unique voice and personality. I’m particularly entertained by Wolfman Geoff in the middle, who was so amazed that his hips were moving in time to the music, and then realized he loved it. (Also, have you ever seen a cuter Dracula gesture (1:33)? I think not.) Narrator Geoff had some great looks and moves throughout too, even when he wasn't vocalizing - the perfectly timed move at 2:00 was, well, perfect.

Now the music stuffs. The instrumentation on this song is so freaking enjoyable. It’s bouncy and jaunty and buoyant, just what you’d (not) expect in a monster song. And who knew that Für Elise would make such a great ragtime riff! Lyrically, I loved how in the first and second choruses, the monsters were the “backup singers” while the Narrator took the lead, but in the third chorus, the roles were reversed. It’s little things like this that keep Geoff’s songs fresh and interesting and unpredictable.

Geoff, you are a master at incorporating details, little or big, for us to find. It’s like a treasure hunt…but the treasure, truly, is this song.

A lot of the the song is in a bassy speaking voice. Obviously I’m not gonna write down every low inflection but I’ve left in the cool ones.

0:17 D2 chest
0:52 G1 spoken
1:31 C2-D2 chest
1:34 *D1 subharmonic*
1:46 A1 chest
1:52 A1 spoken
2:07 *G1 chest*
2:15 C2 chest
2:56 G#1 spoken

This was awesome. This song is way better with the deeper vocals. Great remake.

My late great uncle (Gary Paxton) wrote and produced the original version of this song for Bobby Pickett!!! Warms my heart so much to know that this song will forever be relevant thanks to amazing musicians like you covering it! Thank you so much for doing you, in such a beautiful way

Geoff looks so right and natural in that outfit, it suits his face, hair, build and manner perfectly.

My oldest would jam out to this with his great-grandmother with her record player when he was learning to walk. His nickname became Monster Mash. Thanks for bringing up such a great memory.

Incredible how each of the "extra Geoffs" has a personality, just like the heads in "The Headless Horseman", each has a way to look, to move, the facial expressions...

This' my dog's favorite song 🐕💘
For hearing your songs every day he is used to them. But if this one plays he always immediately starts singing along. The harmonies touch him. And not to forget he's a relative of Wolfman 😄🐺

Crap! How did I just notice that the first four movements of his Mash are the universal monsters signatures!?!?!?
The first (arms out) is Frankenstein’s monster
Second (arms down and back arched) the wolfman’s howl
Third (arm across) is Drac behind his cape
Fourth (arms crossed) is the Mummy

Took a bunch of reaction views until I could pay attention to the little details. Geoff, you are something else brother!

It's super impressive how low he can go and all, but can we talk about how he can also still sing the higher notes?

Just watched this with my 8 year old son. Who recently discovered he can sing on the inhale. I had explained to him that it is rare to be able to do. He has begun playing with his voice and it was amazing to be able to show him what years of training and practice of control of your voice can do. We absolutely love listening to you and other artists sing together and practice new voice techniques we learn together. Thank you for helping me to continue to inspire my son's love for music.

Most people were born to musicals, but in this case musicals wait for Geoff to come around. I've never watch a all around better performer. Great singing and very well put together! Thank you for allowing us to watch.

I absolutely love that the 3 monsters are at a lower framerate making their movements so eerie

1:22 "The zombies were having... fun." Sometimes a well-placed pause can be the best point in a song.

I remember saying to my husband last year after Headless Horseman came out "Oh, I hope maybe he'll do Monster Mash next year" and Wow, did you ever do it right! I've watched this video so many times, especially this week since my Dad was put on hospice on Monday and this wonderful video has been one of the few things guaranteed to put a genuine smile on my face. I love it all but my favorite part is the look on mad scientist Geoff's face in the Dracula scene. Absolutely priceless! Also love those dance moves but you'd best be careful or Layne will be wanting crazy dance moves along with the vocal gymnastics for his next VP video! My heartfelt thanks to you, Kathy & your entire crew for all the time, effort and hard work that went into making this gem.

Tough to remake such a classic but you did a phenomenal performance. I'm 74 and was hesitant to click on the video; I was quite sure I wasn't gonna like it. Loved it! While I won't give up Bobby's version, I'll play this too. Great stuff.

I never noticed until just now that Igor-Geoff was doing the Floss dance at the end. It's the little bits of characterization like that which really make these videos worth rewatching.
