How to Add Basemaps to QGIS: Openlayers, QuickMapServices and XYZ Tiles

Показать описание

This video looks at three options for adding basemaps from the web to your QGIS project. Note - please always check that basemaps are licensed for your particular use!

Firstly the OpenLayers plugin, an old faithful from QGIS 2 but still not fully adapted for QGIS 3.

Next, the QuickMapServices plugin, which offers dozens of basemaps to choose from (though still with some issues).

Finally the option to connect directly to XYZ tile services so you can customise your own set of basemaps for regular use - plus where to look to find them.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out why quickmapservices was only showing me 2 options, and this video saved me. Thank you sooo much.
It seems unfortunate that they wouldn't have more options by default, especially satellite maps.
This video also greatly expanded what I knew was possible with basemaps. Thank you.
