The creepiest thing I heard was during BEAST week in basic training. We had to wear full MOPP gear (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear protection gear with a gas mask) and hide in a bunker. They played this awful wavering tone siren that I still remember very clearly in my head. It was around 80 degrees and the gear basically added 10 degrees to your body temp and the gas mask causes a bit of disorientation because you're breathing becomes a bit restricted. All of that with the siren had my anxiety pretty high.

the rising tones really freaked out my cat. she jolted out of napping on my abdomen and started looking all big-eyed around the room suddenly while digging her claws into me. took her a few minutes to relax her head and get back to sleep.
