Test drove Tesla and BYD, ultimately decided on the Seal! Thanks for covering this!

Fogging is simple science. It is essentially condensation on the windscreen due to a difference in temperatures between the two sides of a piece of glass. When cold air touches a warmer surface, condensation will occur on the surface. Once you figure out which side the condensation is occurring on, you can adjust your aircon temp or turn on/off the windscreen demister to get rid of the condensation. For those who aren't aware, there are two demister switches for the front and rear windscreen. The one with the rectangle shape icon is for the rear windscreen while the one with an icon that looks like the curved windscreen is for the front. When you turn on the front demister, the fans will sound very loud. That's normal because the car is trying to defog the windshield, which is critical for safe driving, rapidly while forcing a lot of air thru very slim slots at the front of the dash under the windscreen.

Some European car brands program their auto-climate air conditioning to deal with the weather automatically. You just set your AC to auto and the sensors will take care of everything. I know most of us don't like that because we like to keep the AC air circulating inside the cabin all the time. But these programs tend to open the air vents every now and then if the weather outside is cold. This is to let outside air in to equalise the temps so that your windows and windscreens don't fog up.

What a contrast between Singapore and Australia in terms of access to charging stations. Nearly 5000 accessible within the city-state. But to cover the 7.692 million square kilometres we have in Australia, the Electric Vehicles 2021 report estimated there are around 3, 000 public chargers with 470 supercharging ones. The situation is improving, but we are well behind the 8 ball. On the positive side, the BYD Seal is now available to buy in Oz with 3 new models coming in 2024. A helpful review 🎉🎉

Other than the fog issue, this is another great EV option for people to transit from ICE! Great review 😊

Great review. Good points that you mention on how the car can be improved but I feel the start/stop button is still required.

Great constructive criticism for the BYD Seal! Wish the Model 3 has more physical buttons in the interior. Would have been a good consideration between both.

Very good review. Thanks Daren for doing this. I'm driving model Y and quite curious how the BYD Seal drives. I noticed the sound insulation is pretty good within the car. 360 parking is cool. Tesla doesn't have it. Overall, I still prefer the Tesla look and most imptly, the software experience.

Good looking car and very good review! Keep it up, Daren.

I think the fogging is caused by the aircon vents being directed at the windscreen

BYD is smart to invite you to do a review! you also have a very nice car number 8282 for BYD.

There is a blind spot camera function that comes on but only when you're stopped and put on the indicators. The demisting function is the one with the windscreen and the F which you have already turned on. Maybe you need to put the climate control to auto. The one you pressed in the video is for the rear and side mirrors. - Atto 3 owner

For the fogging issue. maybe the temp and speed is too strong. Not sure I am right, in most cases where we turn on the heating mode, it creates more fogging (At least from my experience).

So what I did is to turn down the speed and turn up the aircon temp.

Good point. I think BYD looks more pleasing to the eye. But correction on the portion where you mentioned about the compartment you saw in BYD but not other cars where you can put coins and keys etc....that is not exactly true.

I am driving a VW Passat. It comes with that compartment. But it is....a truly useful compartment.

Love your reviews Darren. I’m new to EVs but have a few basic questions if you or other viewers may indulge me in:

1. How do you personally decide when to use fast charging or “slow” charging?
2. How much does it cost to do a full charge on the Seal?
3. Have you encountered charging stations that have malfunctioned in Singapore?

Thanks in advance!

BYD FTW!

On the point of wireless, it's really for sake for being modern. In such a small cabin and sitting beside the headunit all the time, it is easier to just plug in the cable.
