Oof this song! I write a lot of stories and I constantly find inspiration in songs and this one I definitely want to be one of them! I feel like this kid is accepting the pain because he knows that later the person beating him up WILL suffer. Not only that, but I think he understands what's going on in his home and instead of getting angry at him, he's letting him do it, hence the sentence "Well, there's no excuse for the things he did, but there's a lot at home that he's dealin' with" because he feels helpless and just needs to feel like he can control something. And this boy is rooting for him, "I hope one day that he'll say to him, put down those bubbles and that belt buckle" I don't think people realize we listen to stories every day. Seriously, this is amazing!
