Welcome to my Music Theory Tutorials. In this Grade 5 ABRSM Discovering Music Theory lesson I will continue to guide you through the fifth chapter of ABRSM Music Theory in Practice Grade 5 which looks at Intervals, with or without a key signature. This chapter also looks at chromatic intervals and compound intervals.

I have been teaching music theory for over twenty five years and I’ll help you every step of the way - just as if you were sitting next to me. I have provided free a PDF information booklet with all the information you’ll need to work through the Grade 1 ABRSM Discovering Music Theory workbook, available in A4 and US Letter.

Music Theory is an integral part of any musician’s studies. Understanding the structures behind the music we play supports our practise and performance. Even if you don’t play an instrument understanding how music is constructed helps us to be a more informed listener.

I LOVE music theory! It’s like peeling back the layers of the music to look at the nuts and bolts that hold it all together and make the music work.

I can’t say I ended this chapter on a high. So much work still needs to be done on intervals. I may need to find a teacher to just help me understand fully. I think I get it and the different key signatures throw me and I haven’t a clue what I’m doing. I got around 60% correct which isn’t too bad. I like chords or at least grade 4 chords! 😂
