Located near Taiwan and bordering the South China Sea, the Philippines has found itself surrounded by growing threats from China. For help pushing back on Beijing, officials are racing to strengthen ties with the United States, a mutual defense treaty partner that has its own strategic interests in the region.

On the heels of a major military base deal between Manila and Washington, I traveled to the Philippines to observe Army exercises and learn why the country is becoming more and more important on the world stage.

Bruh as someone who lives in the Philippines this makes me really uncomfortable. A war breaking out is something I’d rather not happen right now.

Philippine’s claim to reed bank:
“It’s really simple: that is ours.”
Straight to the point.

"Choosing to #SupportPhilippines isn't a mere decision, it is a loud declaration against injustice. Our most impactful battles are those where we extend our strength to the vulnerable, amplifying their voices in unity. #StandWithPhilippines #VoiceForTheVoiceless #JusticeForAll #PeaceOverPower #EqualityMatters #SpeakUpForChange ✊🇵🇭"

You nailed it. Continued harrassment is the term. Our map containing the Scarborough Shoal has been existing since 1734 while China’s map which included Scaborough Shoal, and which name they only translated from the name Scarborough Shoal was only created in the 1900s. You may bully or harrass us but at the end of the day, greed will not win and justice will be served maybe not on Earth but in a different place.

I'm an American citizen living in the Philippines with my family. As a U.S. Navy Veteran, I am a bit nervous about this whole situation.

Long live the beautiful Filipino people and the freedom of the Philippine Islands. Your brothers and sisters in the US love and will stand with you against any enemies.

I'm 45 now. I'm tired of fighting. My cousins, and siblings have fought for this country. Don't think we won't fly home to suit up and do our best to protect our motherland and our people.

Same with Vietnam. This should be a clear sign to the danger China poses to peace, but for some it’s not obvious.

What the Philippines needs to do is allow the US to maintain a permanent military base in Luzon like they had up until they closed it in the late 80s. I'm pretty sure China wouldn't have come as far as they did in taking Philippine waters if those bases never closed.
