My grandfather had to remove his oil heating, the insurance company wanted him to put a heat pump in, it doesn't work that well and his house is now uninsured because they don't consider a heat pump a primary source of heat, thank you truedue, from

Heat pumps in Canada are a real bad idea! I live in South Carolina and if it gets below 32F, my 5 ton heat pump barely keeps up and the electric heat strips run a lot!

Being an HVAC contractor I can tell you that heat pumps do not work efficiently in Canada. After the temperature drops below freezing the unit will be going into defrost mode often not to mention that when it goes into defrost it turns on heat strips which burns more electricity that is produced by fossil fuel. And when the temperature drops below freezing the heat produced by the heat pump is minimal
