Columbus SG copy. Bought for me in 1975 for Christmas, but didn't have an amp!
This is an excellent lesson and explained very clearly. Well done.

Tanglewood Rebel 4K, colour black. Cool looking, extremely light bass, put flatwound strings on it, lovely tone!

First - James, I love your lessons - they are so understandable! Two - reading about all the basses are very cool - a great question for us bassists! *** I had a Japanese Diamond Aria bass and a Magnavox (Montgomery Wards brand - defunct store now and may have only been a Texas chain store) 15W, with a 12" speaker. Next amp was a Fender Bassman 100W, with 2x15" CTS speakers (what a difference!) Next upgrade...Fender Precision and an Acoustic 371 (365W RMS with an 18" in a folded horn cab) - I thought I was set, until I got my brand new 74 Black Widow Rick 4001 - that I still use the most today.

First bass was a tan wood grain Fender copy with a black pick guard. I can't remember the brand. Worked all summer of 1979 to pay the $150 to the music store in Marlow Heights, Maryland. In late 1980 it was stolen from the music room of my high school in Clinton, never to be seen again. Fortunately they didn't steal my love for playing, which after several years of hiatus to raise a family and have a career, I'm back at it and have graduated (somewhat) to upright bass, playing outdoors with various acoustic combos around the southern Chesapeake Bay. Thanks for all the informative tutorials.

My first bass guitar was a teardrop body with Framus neck I made when I was 16. I don't recall the pickups I had on it. I never owned the Framus. My mother bought the neck for me from a music store. My first commercial bass was a Gibson EB-0 that I modified into an EB-3. Over the years I've owned more basses I've made myself than commercial ones I've bought.

EKS Starfire from Nagoya jazz bass. Now it’s my Reggae bass. Black body pick guard hardware and controls also tuning pegs the neck light wood. 🤷🏼‍♂️ it is what it is and I like it.

My first was a 2002 sonic blue Fender Precision bass. I foolishly sold it, but I'm waiting on a new one. Thanks for these great lessons, brother! 😎✌🏻

My first “real” bass (after buying one with a warped neck that I could tune) was a Kala U-Bass. I started taking lessons with it. Too small to really enjoy the way I wanted to play. So, I bought a Taylor GS Mini-e bass. Fun to play, but it doesn’t have that full size bass sound. Then I bought a custom full size PJ in the middle of the covid. It’s a very nice. But for my older fingers it’s quite a stretch.
Sooo, this week I found a beautiful short scale Nash Bass. I’m just saying that my first bass that I can really enjoy is this one. (I still have the other three though, just in case.)

Squier VM Jazz Bass - Sunburst. Put flat wound strings on it. Still play it a lot. Love the feeling of the neck.

My first bass was a plank....an Antonia very very loosely based on a Fender jazz 😬 played through a lively Selmer valve amp with a 10ins speaker

My first bass was a gear4music branded cheapo p bass. Got me started though then straight to a Ibanez sg300 bass and what a difference 😃

First and only bass (so far): Squier Jaguar. Love it for the active pickup (awesome boost!); hate it for the active pickup (sucks 9V batteries dry quickly).

Mine was a fender 1978 squire jazz bass with a maple neck and fingerboard 20 frets gotoh locking head tunes with one long humbucker and it was five strings but I broke the A string while trying to tune the bass so I'm now I'm just using a Yamaha four string with two precision pickups and a humbucker with a PRS silver sky kind of headstock

I had a Barracuda copy of a jazz bass, if was really cheap - the neck was bowed, the truss rod was maxed out, the pickguard didn't even fit properly. It was pretty lousy. Since then I settled on short-scale basses. Here's a potential theme for one of your videos, James - the best short-scale basses :-) Congrats on 20K subscribers!
