Came to watch this clip after hearing Chris Rager's take on this scene in the Reverie arc. He's . . . Passable, for a cartoon show. But Cole Brown's performance was truly the stuff of legend. I'm not sure if any VA could measure up after him.

In my opinion, Blackbeard was the real winner of the War of the Best at Marineford. His plan started by killing Thatch and stealing the Devil-Fruit which gave him the Darkness power. Knowing his former captain would want Thatch’s death avenged, Blackbeard lured Ace far away from his comrades and then used his new Darkness power to overcome and defeat him. He knew the WG would use Ace’s capture and future execution as a trap to lure the Whitebeard pirates out of the New World and into their territory where they would use their full force to bring down Whitebeard once and for all. This served as the perfect distraction as it kept the marines from ever suspending his true intentions. He also knew turning Ace in was enough for the WG to grant him status as Warlord since they were already looking for a new candidate to replace the recently imprisoned Crocodile. Now with Warlord status, his criminal record was revoked and he could go anywhere and do anything and nobody could stand in his way. He continued the next phase of his plan by traveling to Impel Down to release and recruit the most dangerous prisoners into his crew. The only flaw to this was the warden who did suspect him of wrongdoing and infected him and his crew with his venom. Of course, this could have also been part of his plan since it made the prison release the old jailer who not only cured them of the venom but also willingly joined his crew and lead them to the lower level where he recruited four of the most dangerous criminals in the world and together they slaughtered most of the prison staff and guards and even overpowered and nearly killed the venomous warden. Finally, all that was left was to travel to Marinford during the War of the Best and finish Whitebeard. He knew the marines and Whitebeard pirates were already fighting and had weakened in defense. This allowed him and his crew to sneak in undetected and finally reveal to the whole world his entire plan and how both the pirates and marines had played into it. His grand final was when he used his power and crew to finally kill his former captain and steal his devil-fruit power through a method only he knew and nobody would ever learn. Now with Whitebeard dead and the WG weakened, he now possessed the powers to either destroy the world or plunge it into eternal darkness. At this point the WG realized too late that by destroying one monster, they’d unknowingly created an even worse one. One that couldn’t be stopped by anyone or anything. The only thorn in Blackbeard’s side was Shanks and his crew. He knew Shanks, who despite not possessing any Devil-Fruit powers was the only person actually capable of stopping him and they would have to fight for the fate of the world. Of course, now wasn’t the right time for that, even though his whole plan was already accomplished, he still needed to grow stronger and expand his army in order to be on par with Shanks. That’s why he declined and left Marineford in ruins. If it wasn’t for Shanks and his crew, Blackbeard would’ve wiped out both the marines and pirates and thrown Marineford down into a watery grave.

And so that’s in my option as to why I think Blackbeard was the real victor of Marineford.
