I tried Marilyn Monroe's REAL Foundation for a week (Vaseline primer?!)

I have featured Marilyn Monroe's favorite beauty products that you can still buy today in several videos. Marilyn's makeup artist suggested that she use Vaseline under her foundation as a way to give her skin a soft focus under the lights. I wanted to try some of her beauty products, so I decided to use her favorite foundation combined with Vaseline every day for a week.

I have used Vaseline faithfully since I was 13 as a face moisturizer l do all my face, lips and eyelids every night before bed and every morning after washing my face. I then put makeup on about a hour later. Never a problem. I'm 61 yrs. and proud to say l have flawless skin and look half my age.Have been a Marylin Monroe fan since I was 13 heard she did this and yes it works. Great videos. ❤❤❤💋💋💋

I believe Marilyn used the Vaseline as a base above which the foundation could "float, " making any small lines or imperfections disappear.

Vaseline is my top choice everyday lip moisturizer. It’s also for me the first layer before any lip color. If used by doctors and dental offices alike then it must be a proven awesome product.

A brush would work better than a poufy. That may be the glitch. You need more of a sweap vs pat. As a mature woman, my skin is getting dry. So, think this may work. And save me 110 a year on Primer. I appreciate this challenge. Ty for sharing.

Your a trooper. I can’t stand Vaseline and I have very dry skin. I read that she also used Max Factor foundation stick. I ordered one from Amazon. I used it once and threw it away. It had a horrific smell and made me look 10 years older. I’m so glad we have so many other options today. It’s sad that she had limited options. Great job. 💗

I imagine this would just melt under hot lighting. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! I used to ask my elderly patients what they used on their faces (the ones with amazingly young looking skin) and the top two answers were always Oil of Olay or Vaseline.

Love your videos, I have oily skin so I don’t think I’ll try this but I wanted to tell you that I too use the Coty Airspun and I put it in my vintage powder holder I keep on my vanity. I just cut a hole in the container and dump it in.

Marilyn would really need a theater make up. She was "on" as soon as she stepped out of her door. Paparazzi hung about her like vultures. She had to be photo ready at all times. She HAD to be perfect. She would have kept a powder compact with her everywhere. Ye Gods. What a life.

Maybe after using the vasoline, wait a few minutes and gentle blot off excess with a tissue, the do the foundation. I think the foundation was quiet lovely on you.

I have a feeling the foundation might work better without the vasline under. And I wouldn't be surprised if the formulas have changed at least a little bit since Marylin used them, especially the foundation, so it might have worked better for her when she used the combination

I actually started just mixing concealer with vaseline to make like a foundation and I love it! But a little definitely goes a long way!

My late husband was enamored with Marilyn Monroe & had an extensive collection. Marilyn used Vaseline because she shaved her face everyday and had very dry skin. He had one book that spoke of some of her makup, though her makeup artist refused to ever reveal his secrets.
