I used the intersecting chords theorem and the quadratic equation. Was so sure I'd made a mistake that my answer of 4√5 + √17 was wrong. Definitely a messy way to do it compared to this.

I would have gone for trig functions, but this is also nice.

Length AB = a + b

12²=8²+a²
a= 8, 94 cm

9²=8²+b²
b= 4, 12 cm

AB = a + b
AB = 13, 06 cm. ( Solved √ )
