easier method: leave y on one side of the equation and equiate the other side of the equations into each other.
y = 3x/2 - 5 and 4y = 3x - 8
y = 3x/2 - 5 and y = 3x/4 - 2 (8/4 = 2)
then just do 3x/2 - 5 = 3x/4 - 2
the result is x = 4
