Hecate

Hecate was truly a goddess with two sides - on one hand, a great protector of children and mothers in childbirth, and a safeguard against evil demons haunting the household. But she could also harness a terrible destruction upon her enemies through nightmares, evil demons and magic. In this video, Dr. Foxwede explores the origins and attributes of this curious goddess.

That point about women in childbirth is very important when thought about in relation to Hera. People who wonder why she was so evil need to understand that she let some children die. So honouring her was important. She also was very selective about who she bred with.

I've actually heard of Hecate because of her appearance in "Macbeth" .She wants to be more involved in the witches manipulation and is portrayed as a rather angry woman, so I cant see that much similarities between the Hecate from two thousand years ago and Shakespeares Hecate. Do you have any idea why Shakespeare took her (name) for the role? Also I love your vids, thanks for your very very cool work! :-)

The "H" is not emphasised in Greek.
So it is pronounced "EH-KAR-TI".

Like "A-for example", or "A-before", or "A-given that the Spartans". It sounds horrible.
