Using Your MacBook as an External Monitor for Sony a7s II: Step-by-Step Guide

Swivel Screen Alternative for Sony a7sII a7II a7rII

A swivel screen would be wonderful on the Sony a7 cameras. But we don't have that and it's not going to change any time soon. What we can do, however, is use our Mac or Windows machine as an external monitor with live view! In this video, I'll show you how — and also what the most common problem is with the error message:

"Camera is not connected. Select PC Remote in USB Connection on your camera, and connect the camera. The camera may not be detected if another application is using it."

Great job! I think this video will be super useful for Sony camera owners, especially those people that are trying to Vlog. I've noticed that vloggers that own Sony cameras complain about the lack of a swivel screen. This is a nice workaround with a piece of gear most of these users already have. That said, I like the idea of a very small LCD in a cage if you don't want to walk around with the laptop.

Best part of the tut was how you explained some of the pitfalls of the software. Valuable!

Hi Chris! Thanks for the informative video. I have a question - I want to see myself while I am recording. I am able to open the app on my mac but I don't see the video. It's just a blank screen with a bunch of settings on the right. I am able to press record on my computer and the camera starts recording but the computer screen is black.
