This method works!
It's standard practice for several Victorian Scuba clubs to launch and retrieve members boats this way where no ramp is available. These boats are 5m -7m fiberglass or plate aluminium with up to 200 hp outboards and up to 12 scuba tanks plus lead weight belts on board - they're heavy. At Tidal River Wilson's Promontory where there is a long shallow beach, it common to use 50 - 100m of rope between the trailer and tow vehicle. There would be no way to keep the tow vehicles out of the water otherwise. Just make sure spectators are kept well back out of danger and hang a wet towel or similar on the rope to help absorb whiplash if the rope snaps during the retrieval.
Working as a team our club can launch or retrieve 5 boats in under an hour this way.

Good little video. For sure I'd attach the snatch rope to trailer before launching. Instead of walking the trailer back up to the car just pull it out with the vehicle then back up and attach and park.

Have used this method in the late 70s launching a 19ft Vita Craft, peace of cake.

Tried this with an alloy dingy years back - had a wave go over the top which put a bit of water in it (not much ) was enough to make it sit lower and collect more water - hell of a job to get it out . You really need 2 or 3 ppl to do this .

NEVER.. NEVER.. NEVER stand behind a boat that is launched.. you will end up under water with the boat on top of you!! Might get away with it being a inflatable but not with fibreglass or even dinghy.

To save the struggle and panic you can't beat an electric winch, plus trailer ok while in straight line knackerd if you have to turn at all

I think I'll stick to the good ole fashion launch ramp. By the way, what about the electrical plug? I hope it's dry before it's reconnected

What a mission, galv trailer a night mare in the surf, better to get a alloy trailler that floats as the water will float it off the bog holes for the wheels, wont need a rope to pull it out, better still can also get boats with trailer beach wheels that flip down to trailer it so can simple drop them down as reach beach and drag it out by hand, others are using trailers that attach out the back of the surf and its made to drive through surf with boats floater attached, simply anchored and the trailer floats out the back waiting for you to return from fishing winch it on drive back through surf, lets just say its the boats life jacket.. hi from NZ

I did this to my trailer and have the same boat as this but my wheels suck into the sand as soon as I get to the wet bit and I cant move it.
Am I doing something wrong?

the strong man way is to put your back under the front then carry it to the water and vice versa.

what is the heaviest boat you can launch this way? can a jet boat be launched like that?

Where did you get the part for the wheel. I can't find a bearing and hub like that. Cam

Thanks for the video mate. 👍 I wouldn’t stand behind a boat trying to hold it in surf. You will one day get smoked by the boat!!! Stand to the side

I need to be able to do this in sand that gets normal 4x4s stuck sometimes not rock sand.
