Is it any good? Asiana Airlines Economy Class Review

I have to admit, Asiana Airlines is not an airline I know a lot about.

I know they have a great livery and are a full service airline from South Korea but are they any good? Join me and we'll find out together.

We're flying on an Asiana 777 in economy class from Sydney Australia to Seoul South Korea with a flight time of just under 10 hours. The perfect chance to test out if Asiana is any good and if it should be on your list of airlines to fly.

We boarded and pushed back on time. Unfortunately though the pilots discovered a technical fault as we taxied to the runway and had to return to the gate. A 90 minute delay with minimal information provided was not the ideal start for Asiana.

However once the problem was fixed and we took off I got to enjoy the Asiana Airline hospitality in full. Their crew were lovely, the food - even in economy - was delicious and the seat was very comfortable.

3-3-3 on a 777 is just a winner. I agree the cabin looks drab and dated, but it looks waaaay more comfortable that the industry standard 3-4-3. Impressive they serve two full hot meals (minus that sad KitKat) + a cold snack on a 12hr flight - on flights of the same length with, for instance, Lufthansa, there's only one hot meal + a cold breakfast served nowadays. Very poor. The amenity kit, albeit basic, is well appreciated and enhances the flying experience for sure. Looks like a comfortable long-haul economy flying experience. Asiana has always been one of my top choices whenever I fly in/out of Seoul, whether it's in their economy or business class. Yes - they do lack consistency among their aircraft especially due to their older planes showing age, but their meal and service were always top-notch. Personally am not a big fan of them merging with Korean Air since there were so many good things about Asiana I will miss, not to mention the star alliance mileage I have racked up over the past years.

In my opinion, OZ is one of the weakest link in Star Alliance. I flew on their A330 recently in EYCL and was quite disappointed. 😅

well timed Dennis i shall be flying this route next week. looking forward to it. have flown with them some years ago and have good memories of the syd-icn-ams flight with end destination to see family. I just could not book a good seat on board for this trip booked through KLM. love your reports, very proffesional.

Great video. I've always found Asiana to be excellent in terms of inflight service and catering. My last flight with them was from Tokyo Haneda to Seoul Gimpo on their A330 which had a similar cabin colour scheme to the 777 that you flew on. Hope you had a wonderful time in Seoul- it's a fantastic city!

Thanks for the review Dennis. I can't help but cast my gaze back to 10-15 years ago and recall how similar Asiana's cabin looks to Singapore Airlines' back then on the 77W and A380!

I hope you have a great time while you're here. I thought for a moment our paths might cross at the airport when I fly out this Thursday. Then I realised you would be Terminal 1 with Asiana, and I'll be Terminal 2 with Korean Air.

do you feel any difference either flexibility of booking etc?
I used to travel quite sometims before Covie -19 happen. (But, I always travelled with StarAlliance)

Great video Dennis! You know how I am I liked the video as soon as I saw Jeb and you in the opener! 😂What a great review and I was surprised as Asiana Economy Class looked pretty good honestly! Also I agree with you Dennis the Asiana livery is incredible and I hope it sticks around however it probably won’t and Korean Air’s livery is pretty fab too!
I can’t wait to visit Seoul and Adelaide for that matter too and I cannot wait to try Asiana someday soon! 😊
