“How do you choose a therapist??” This is a question I get asked a lot. And it’s a question that I’ve asked myself when looking for a therapist. School? Credentials? Location? How do you know who has the right experience for helping you, anyway?

You might go down the rabbit hole of google and Psychology Today profiles. Been there. And I’ve had times when I met with a therapist for a month only to go “Yeah, this doesn’t feel right.”

In the beginning, there’s usually something in your body telling you whether it’s a good fit. You look forward to the sessions. Underneath the normal jitters of talking about your life, you feel calm with the person.

And while some (or a lot) of anxiety is completely understandable when entering into any new relationship, especially if you have a history of not feeling safe in relationships, underneath the fear is sometimes a larger truth, your intuition, telling you this person can support you on your path 💗

You may have found your therapist if you:

✨feel relaxed in their presence
✨can see yourself opening up to them
✨look forward to your sessions
✨breathe easier

At the end of the day, therapy is about a soul to soul connection. Sure, credentials and experience matter. But more than anything, your body and intuition tell you when it feels like the right person for you at this moment in time.
