In this video I share with you my first time using the Oneida Air Systems Super Dust Deputy and a couple hick-ups I had when setting up the system. At the end, I'm very happy with the Super Dust Deputy and can't wait to put it to use.

Thanks for watching,
Eric

When I printed out my template, I measured with a rule and had to enlarge the drawing to 106% to get everything to print out correctly to the right size .

I have heated flex hose and 4" PVC pipes with a propane torch it works lovely you can also use a good heat gun to soften it up so it can slide over fittings.

Bought a 2hp Grizzly dust collector on Craigslist. there was no manual so I watched every YouTube video I could find, and there are some really good ones.

I showhorned the Dust Collector, a Dust Deputy XL, a 40 gallon Rubbermaid garbage can and a Wynn Cartridge Air Filter into a closet, fired up the system and swept the sawdust into the hose, the dust disappearing into the tube.

instead of collecting in the Rubbbermaid, 99% of the sawdust ended up in the pail connected to the bottom of the filter cartridge, downstream from the can. Called Oneida, turns out the primary reason for this is a leak between the DD and the barrel/dust receptacle.

Negative pressure (vacuum) created by the Dust Collector was causing the backside of the 40 gallon Rubbermaid garbage to cave partially in, drawing the top lip away from the mating surface allowing air to be sucked into the bottom of the DD. The incoming air carried all the swirling sawdust out the top of the DD and into the secondary filter and bag.

It should be noted that ANY leak between the DD and the receptacle can cause this problem, so if you have this check the receptable, the hoses, the clamps - basically everything under the DD that could leak air.

Needing to replace the Rubbermaid I found a thick wall 20 gallon round plastic "sump basket" that fit perfectly in place of the plastic garbage can and solved the problem. So if this problem sounds familiar check for leaks between the bottom of the DD and the sawdust receptacle, because odds are that's the problem. So if you're having a problem with Blow-by odds are it's an air leak somewhere between the bottom of the DD and the receptacle. Fix this and you'll probably fix your problem....

Decent review, but that flex hose from the dust collector to the cyclone with a hard bend on top of the cyclone is killing a lot of cfm, especially if you are running longer flex to get to other tools after the cyclone. Would highly recommend turning the dust collector 90 degrees to get the outlet pointed towards the cyclone, then if the outlet is 5" run 5" pvc up and turn towards the cyclone, then use flex over to it so you can disconnect easily for emptying.

Good info. Bought a Harbor Freight dust collector and getting ready to install. Collecting the necessary connections. Your info is valuable knowledge. Thanks.

I have the Dust Deputy XL with the 6" inlet, 6" outlet and 6" connection to the bucket and didn't have a problem connecting them with 6" metal furnace duct.

Its march of '19 now so I am sure you have the bugs worked out by now, but for seeing when the barrel is full: put a plexiglass window (4 inch square or so) on the lid then you can see in with a flashlight. Just seal it with caulking and screw it down.

The Super DD is a great thing to have in the shop, and will save a tone of time emptying out those damn plastic bags all the time. I know you are going to get a HEPA cartridge too, and that will be a major upgrade not only to your air flow, but also the cleanliness of your exhaust. And nice shirt BTW!!!

I see what others have said about the restriction of that radical turn in your flex hose. So make a 9"or so radius from some thin wood to strap down that black flex hose to get away from the acute turns. Should really speed up the air.

I love their stuff. Use the Dust Deputy and Ultimate Dust Deputy for my Festool DC and they work very well.

Thanks, just bought a used Jet Dust Extraction system along with a used Oneida cyclone (with drum). Was wondering how to set it all this up, your video helps a lot. Seems like a common frustration with these systems is the various couplers needed to connect everything together. My shop tools have various size hookups as well. Very surprised there is no "standard" in place for shop vacuum systems to make this a little less maddening. Anyway, thanks again!

The bend of the flex tube needs to be fixed, it reduces air flow to the top of the super cyclone collector.

Eric, I like the Youtube live approach. Interruptions happen to me too. Perhaps I should hang a sign on my door, I was thinking 'DANGER - Confined Space - Permit Required for Entry' I too have found dust collection fittings a crap shoot particularly the plastic fittings. Steve

You can eliminate the barrel clamp altogether if you fabricate a metal knife edge on top of your barrel and then apply an automotive type of door gasket too it. When you turn on the collector the suction will pull it down tight. With the collector off, the dust deputy will lift right off.

To print a picture at the right size an easy way is to open it in paint and under page setup you have adjust to 100% normal size

We all need to band together and have a march demanding dust collection fittings fit

Ran into the same problems as you. Seeing no one has mentioned it yet but 55 gallons of sawdust weighs a ton. Although you might be able to lift it the garbage guys might not be as strong. I came home from work one day and had small mountain of sawdust sitting at the end of my drive way. Ended up using a 20 gallon soap can from the car wash. Paid 5 dollars for it.

I ran into the same problems with the Deluxe Dust Deputy that I wanted to use with my Crapsman shop vac. The hoses that Oneida includes in the box did not fit the cyclone. Could not believe it. Took over a week with several phone calls and emails to finally get it resolved. Oneida made me email pictures to them before they would help.
