The US Air Force Wants To Retire F-22 Raptor

The Air Force and the agency that funds the F-22 programme disagree over the Raptor's future. The Air Force plans to retire the jets to make room for its replacement, the NGAD fighter. After funding jets with production delays, Congress is unwilling to retire the world's first fifth-generation fighter jet too soon. Air Force has 185 F-22 Raptors. Just 123 F-22s are primary mission aircraft, so they can truly fight. The remaining F-22s are used for training, development, and support and cannot engage in air combat.

Thing might retire while still being king of the sky. Crazy. 25 years old now and there's nothing comparable. Su-57 is barely low fourth gen RCS and the J20 is behind on engines and hasn't been shown to actually fire from its internal bay.
