It's raining. Take my umbrella with you but don't forget to bring it back tomorrow.

Thank you very much for this video. Now, I understand the difference between the two. I was confused before when I used these words!

This is clear. Once you just consider the situation. It is similar in, I'd say, in most languages.

Mostly agree with your examples, but would quibble about Ray and Sam's interaction at 2:03. Ray would say "can you bring drinks" assuming it's his party and Sam would say "I'll bring snacks" only to echo Ray. Otherwise, Ray would say "Can you take drinks" and Sam would say "I'll take snacks" (we know the party must be in the future, so that has nothing to do with it). Also not aligned with your umbrella example, "I will TAKE an umbrella in case it rains" (motion away to a destination)

What an amazing video! Thank you so much for your clear explanation about the two words.
I have a question for you, though. What if A and B is going to C's place for a party tomorrow, and A and B are now talking about what to get for the party.
So A says "I'm thinking about (bringing/taking) some wine to the party."
Which is correct and why? Thanks in advance :)

I have a simpler explanation for
Take is to move something from where you are....to where you are not.
e.g. "Take your lunch to school, Johnny". ...or, "Don't forget to stop and get Linda and take her with you." (You're BOTH moving a thing (or yourselves) from where you are to some place you're not!)

BRING is the reverse; use it when moving something from where you ARE NOT to where you ARE. e.g. Mom says to Johnny at the breakfast table: "Don't forget to BRING your homework back with you this afternoon." (He'll be moving his books from where he is...at school...to where he's not, at home.)
Or Fred calls Terry and says "Bring some beer with you when you come over". Terry will be moving something from where he IS (at his house)...to where he's not (at Fred's house).

Question : I was talking to a friend, Steve, about 3rd parties with whom we are friends. Steve said : ' Carl is going back home to Manchester on Saturday' . I said to Steve : 'Is he (Carl) going to bring Anne ( his girfriend ) with him ?'. Steve said : ' I don't know, but you should have used the verb 'Take', not 'Bring'. So, who is correct ? Will Carl ' bring' or 'take' Anne to Manchester on Saturday ?

Also, this is correct for British English but a lot of Americans would disagree. They are not wrong, they just have different grammar rules. Probably to do with German or Irish ancestry.

Am I correct in getting frustrated with the ever increasing use of "bring", when they should sy "take"? It seems to be prevalent in American TV..

Hi. If want to report what I did to someone else. Taking the examples in the video. Should I use take or brought?. She told me to bring/take the dog. I brought/took him the phone. Thanks
