While at the Chaparri Ecolodge in Peru, right behind the kitchen, in the compost heap we found an incredible creature. It was a blind snake. Blind snakes are small, delicate snakes that like to live and burrow underground but, this one was different. After confirming with local experts, it was determined this was a new species of blind snake in the Helminthophis genus which is known only to that region of Peru. What a discovery!

This channel deserves way more attention, it's showing that the spirit of discovery is still intact and going strong

I remember snakes almost exactly like this one. Big island, hawaii. I used to lift the grass that grew over the road to gather the brahminy blind snakes. Def a diff species its just cool how similar they are

We have that kind of snake here in the Philippines (maybe another variant). It's very small but agile. It often hides underneath rock, leaves, or deadwood. I first thought it was a thin leech or a worm but when I saw it's tongue. I immediately knew it was a snake.

Best part: this isn't the first time he's discovered new species or reconfirmed once extinct ones, Forrest is one of those new Steve Irwins and we love him for it.
Edit: didn't know so many wildlife experts were waiting around to reply to me

Blind Snake. We have a thick silvery version in Oregon on the riverbanks, they are also known as Bracelets because they will wrap around their wrist and latch onto their tail, we wore them for good luck when rock hunting for agates then put them back where we found them when we got one. They're very friendly little guys, cool to see they are finding relatives in wherever that is he found it, Africa?

I’ve seen it around 25 years ago. Local people used to call it “Duma Shaap (Snake)”

Forrest Gallante is the man. He's not just a nice guy on camera. He took time out of his day to talk to my son and tell him to chase his dreams. I'll forever love this dude no matter what. ❤

Almost looks like a tiny leg less skink. Very awesome find. I would LOVE to examine this animal up close.

In my country it’s called a hazelworm and it’s classified officially as a legless lizard. What makes it a lizard and not a snake is it’s ability to drop its tail when picked up by birds.

We have Blind Snakes in Australia that are very similar to that, look completely like earthworms when uncovering them in the garden until you look closer to see a shimmer and scales

We got a similar snake in Barbados alwell. However, it doesn't have the white head like this one does. We call it a Grass Snake. I myself even caught a blue 1, which is rare because they are usually a shiny dark brown. Keep discovering!❤

Your channel is such an inspiration. You’re like Indiana Jones except with rare and extinct animals and I would watch a tv series or documentary about you

I used to find “worm snakes” in Maryland all the time. I’d just hold them, check them out, and let them go. They do something called the “super wiggles” lol. They’ll be all calm then suddenly go nuts and start wiggling, then chill again like “well I guess you’re not going to eat me…”

We have a snake just like that here in Hawaii where I live. We call it of course a Hawaiian snake. I love what your doing to open the minds and hearts of the masses to our planets creatures who have been pushed to the edge of existence. Keep up the awesome work you do, God bless, stay safe and keep up the great work. Aloha.
