The funny thing is, the relationship COULD have worked, I can explain.

I plan on making a video on it in the future, but basically it's based around the idea of love languages. To sum it up, there are many moments that show a character's love language, Goku being acts of service and Chi Chi's being quality time. Can you blame a woman who has that as a love language, constantly serving Goku's needs while he's completely content with not seeing her all the time? There's a reason why Chi Chi is 'oh so nagging', the poor woman isn't having her emotional needs met.

Where does Bulma fit into all of this, well I can argue that Bulma's love language is... Acts of service, as is Vegeta's! If you watch with this in mind, it can be easier to see. That's what makes them work as a couple, they have needs they both meet.

Goku with his personality of being blunt, having the drive to get stronger, and having the same love language as Bulma could have made it work. But in the end, Bulma really is better off with Vegeta, considering how much they have alike that works in a relationship.
