The DONE button in LIGHTROOM (and why it doesn't matter)?

You can also just hover over and click the tool button you are using when done using it and it will close that way as well. I don’t like change……..most are creatures of habit but with the internet you can always figure out any information pretty quickly. Change is more of an annoyance than anything. Thanks Matt for the video!!

Thanks Matt. Funny I never noticed the 'Close' option before. So obvious once you mention it. I just clicked on the Crop button and it went away. A good primer though to use those keyboard shortcuts. Awesome and thank you

Thank you Matt to brought it up. Little note . If you’re using an old model as me apple with intel (yeah I’m waiting another year) if you don’t close the mask that you are using and simultaneously open into Ps to dive deep for another editing, well you might encounter an error. Personal experience. Close masks, stay on editing panel, and open it into Ps …

Haha, I didn't even realise there was a done button. I always used a keystroke to move out of any of the tools. Love your work (even back in the photoshop guys days!), cheers and hello from Melbourne, Australia 🤙

Okay, I'll admit it, I missed the 'Done' button to start with but there was always the 'Close' button to press when I had finished, now I have had a telling off from Matt and understand that I am a snail on the highway of enlightenment, stuck in the slow lane never going to make the fast lane. You have me guilty as charged Mr Kloskowski, so I will start using the keyboard short cuts, I'm unsure why I don't as I use some of the library KSC's, it will take this dinosaur a few weeks to get used to them but I'll do it, after all it makes sense.

For me, I think the 'Done' button was a larger target to aim a click at and also closer to where the mouse pointer was likely to be.

I agree with Steve Jarvis that Adobe could make things better IF keyboard shortcuts were standard across platforms, perhaps with an option to keep with the traditional shortcuts. But on a standardised 'Done' idea, why not have a standardised shortcut for that (maybe Esc?) rather than fish about trying to remember/hit the shortcut for this particular tool ... ?

Excellent explanation, Matt. Thank you for your excellent help. 😎

Thanks. I just got used to using the done button but figured out other ways after it was gone.

That shortcut you showed for the Brush, why can't Adobe make that consistent between LR and PS? Why does it have to be "K" in Lightroom but "B" in Photoshop, very inconsistent! Lack of standardization (anywhere) drives me crazy.

Not sure if it's the same on a Mac, but ENTER will close the current brush/spot healing/crop tool, and hitting ENTER again will close that panel.

Not sure i really noticed it was done and gone. About six months ago I really encouraged myself to start using all the keyboard shortcuts I could. Surprised at what a difference it makes. What I didn’t know was to hit the same key again to close. Also didn’t know about shift-w to open masking. (Been using individual masking shortcuts). Been using my new knowledge this afternoon and its a big help. Thanks Matt.

Hi Matt, you need to do a tutorial on Camera Raw as there are a lot of hidden buttons there.

I used it a lot, and pressing „enter“ is more or less the same, as it was placed directly over the pictures. The problem today is, that now, it’s a two step process. What slows the whole process down. Before, there where just the icons, now we have an extra menu for the function buttons.

I just hit the enter button it also like the done or close button

Actually, the "Done button" hasn't entirely gone. It is still there in the comparison view (select two images and press C) in the Library module. Mostly gone, yes.

Never seen that “done” button, always used the shortcuts.. actually I’m was looking at this video because I didn’t understand what are you talking about 😅

But... as of v12.1 the people masking feature has been disabled by Adobe for a large number of LR users, and no one is commenting on this or taking Adobe to task over it. I got banned from the Adobe support community for reporting saying it is a bug...

I suppose it is rather funny, but as much time as I have devoted to learning Photoshop shortcut key strokes for tools and other things, it has never occured to me to learn any of the Lightroom key strokes. I suppose I should start.

I cursed for days after the done button was missing, now I had to search the internet for what to do! All because adobe wanted to be 'elegant' and change things without explaining things like this, leaving us users to cursing and searching for what to do. A change HAS to make a SIGNIFICANT improvement before you force a change on a user - this caused so much frustration!
