I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this already, but you should look into a flail mower, specifically with hammer blades. That will cover your rock problems, can handle brush, and leaves a pretty smooth finish cut.

Oh man. I so understand it when you say "this is where I am supposed to be". I live in South Africa and years ago I went on a 5-day hike in a national park. Only 8 people, not a car in sight, surrounded only by nature and wild animals. I remember I had this overpowering feeling that THIS is how man is supposed to live. I think it was that same sense that overcame you. Total peace, total calmness, not in need of even one thing else.

Back when I was in my 20s 5 of my friend & I built a 50 foot by 50 foot log cabin on public land owned by our city & yes we had to sneak around to do it . We built it on a old house foundation that was torn down years before, we dug out the foundation that was left behind by the city & buried in dirt, we used that foundation & built on top of it, mind you it was totally made by hand & it was a piece of land that not a lot of people knew about & people never went there just because nothing was there, I took us 9 months to pull it off but we did it . Years later the city decided to sell this piece of land for development, I had the opportunity to buy it & I did, 10 acres all woodland except for where the cabin was, it was all very tall grass all around the Cabin, now it’s my homestead within a city, I have every amenity of a modern house . I have solar electric with 3 big battery banks, with a windmill for power & water turbines in the creek on my land, I have 2 natural springs on my land along with a water purification system within my cabin . Everything I did took around 6 & a half years to build with the solar, wind & water turbines & it was tough for that 6 & a half years all the wiring being ran, building the windmill, raising the windmill, permits I had to get, inspections on the cabin & the foundation & with all the things I had to fix up, it was rough . Now over 25 years later everything is working like clock work, I’m self sufficient & yes there are time I have to keep up the up keep of everything, it’s just maintenance but nothing too bad, I work from home so there’s no commuting back & forth for work & I do occasionally go to the store for things . It’s a woodland writhing a city as I like to call it . This fall & winter I, ll be working on fencing in my property & as of now I, m working with the city to get all the permits so I can do so, I, m getting older, i, m in my 50s & I want to leave something behind for my kid to where she doesn’t have to pay a dime for electric, water, or rent, just the taxes on the land, hell if she doesn’t want it she could sell it if she wants, that’s up to her, when I, m dead & gone she can say ( my dad built that or this & maybe be proud of me for doing so, hell she practically grew up on that land, I had her every weekend since she was 2 weeks old & sometimes the whole summer . I just want to leave my legacy & lineage behind for someone to appreciate .

What you should build around your creek is a cistern this would allow a collection of water to build up overtime and you would be able to pump out of it maybe even set a pump up that would pump it down to your campsite
