The Original Xbox Controller S is Back

Thanks to Hyperkin for sending me the new DuchesS to review! After having remade the original Duke and 360 controllers for modern day Xbox systems and PC, they've now remade the original Xbox Controller S, a smaller design from the same era as the duke featuring an improved layout. Walking a line between keeping the nostalgia and updating the controller for modern day, here's how the DuchesS stacks up.

Actually the history of the controller gets even cooler. When it was releasing in Japan they absolutely REFUSED to get the Xbox unless the controller was changed. So the Duke wasn't even really in Japan

this controller was also where i first started playing Xbox and have so many memories using these playing halo 1 & 2, jet set radio future, star wars battlefront 2, and the original Forza

I remember the S controller being really comfortable and loved it. I wasn't a fan of the 360's until years later. The battery pack placement was odd to me. It also was much smaller, but I got used to it.

Quick clarification on Hall Sticks
You still CAN get drift, if you do not keep ypur controllers clean it will drift, Hall Effect sticks only prevent drift from parts deteriorating with use

I also grew up with this controller and am really happy that hyperkin re release the s . Would have been cool if they gave it a led screen like the duke

Reload as black button? Wut. Reload for OG Halo 2 is "X", Black button was to change grenade, with White being toggle flashlight.

I had the same experience with the OG Xbox, I got that same Clone Wars and Tetris bundle for Christmas and only really used the duke controller when at friend's houses. This is the controller I grew up with, definitely going to check it out.

I have an adapter that allows me to use newer Xbox controllers with my og Xbox, Ive been meaning to get the Duke so I could use a brand new og Xbox controller in an actual Xbox, this is even better as it's both newer but the shape and bumpers make it more practical for other uses and newer games

I really like the absurdly aggressive springs of the OG xbox S controllers. Is the Dutchess anything like that?

Hall effect definitely doesn't mean "no drift", it just means they are less likely to have drift problems in the shorter term.

The Duke is an enigma of a controller its not even just its size... Who tf thought diagonal buttons that are shaped outward against your fingers was a good idea 😂😂😂
