I like MX, it's my daily driver since MX-19 version. So far, so good.

There is AV Linux, which is based on MX Linux, that is centered around content creation.

I tried a bunch of distros and MX Linux is the easiest to install and the easiest to use with fewer issues.

Stable, easy to install, runs on weaker hardware, few issues, good toolbox. Is it specifically for gamers? No. Perfect out of the box for content creation? Also, no. But few Linuxes are better for first-time users and if you just want to extend the usable lifespan of an older system you have lying around.

MX Linux with KDE Plasma is much better than the Xfce version. I am using it right now and I used it before too, the 22 version for 1 year, then jumped for 1 year on tumbleweed then back to MX 23.
It just works man, super stable, no issues and, of course, I don't do any gaming at all. But if they did not have KDE Plasma, I would be on something else.
Take for example Opensuse Tumbleweed, it's stable, it's rolling release, but its GUI is ancient-like and hard to understand and use, like why YAST has the same interface for the updates with the one for installation but they have to be accessed differently with different buttons .. why 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂
Yes it sucks that once every 2 years you have to reinstall the OS, but this is a distro for conservative usages with like-minded people. Btw, I am using it on a i5 PC from 2020.

MX is good for Atom netbooks with a 32 bit UEFI.
I used it to revive my friend's crappy old netbook.

when I was looking for a personal-use daily distro for a cheap laptop a couple of years ago I did research and decided on xfce mx-linux. I have no regrets, but it is good to be able to config some things yourself (and now it might even be more user-friendly).
For users migrating from mac or windows there are choices that are more user/gui-intuitive
the thing about linux is that every app has it's own config schema/format to learn. To have at least the basic stuff in gui menus makes things much easier and user-friendly.
Personally I like the look of mx-linux, but I did have the border-resize issue. From what I've heard that's more of a WM/xfce issue than an mx-linux issue though.

MX Linux does very well in old laptops that have the limitation of 2/4 GB RAM. For example, if I were to give an old PC to a relative, I would install MX Linux. A few years ago my daughter used to do school video lessons with an old laptop from the year 2009 with MX Linux, and it was very stable because it is based on stable Debian, instead before I had Linux Mint and when updating the kernel, it would sometimes crash. Now I don't like MX Linux has too much too much preinstalled software. Now I have several desktop PCs at home in one I use stable Debian (Ryzen 7 5700x) in another mini Itx PC with Ryzen 7 5700G I installed CachyOS and in the 'other PC with Ryzen 5 5600G + GTX 1080 I installed Endevaour OS

I absolutely adore Mx Linux. It just works on most devices. I do agree however that it feels a tad dated on certain aspects but I think with just someone work on the user experience it could really be perfect

I dabble in Linux on old devices. Most distros seem to work until they break. MX Linux is one that worked the longest for me without breaking and needing to reinstall. So far, Mint is the only one I have been able to upgrade without a full reinstall (although there were Kernel issues I had to learn to upgrade so I could keep sound).

As a Retro person myself I recommend everyone to install Mx Linux, and yes even in my modern PC I run Mx Linux... People saying about MX Linux is good only for old and bad laptops are delusionals in my opinion... I think everyone is free to decide how they are going to use the OS.

Fluxbox is a window manager, one of the old floating ones like IceWM and JWM(which Puppy linux still ships in most versions)

This was the first Distro able to detect my hardware, that doesn´t require an entire IT degree just to install.

If someone wants to be an pseudo elitist tech user in an irrelevant niche, there´s enough options out there for that.

For content creation, if one is a non-gamer, how about AV Linux, which is a MX Studio distro? Have you tried it? Can you do a review?

If one does a video with references to the distro watch rankings, it's highly recommended to know how these rankings function. Without knowing this, suffice to say, mums the word on the subject. Other than that, we are all free to have opinions on likes and dislikes.

manjaro definitely doesn't deserve to be ranked this high that crap is unstable af
when i was trying to daily drive it before i switched to arch it broke almost every time i updated

I had a weird problem with CachyOS yesterday. Grim Dawn would not run for anything at my friend's house. it would run at my house. he told me to install Ubuntu with the budgie desktop environment because it's more stable and Ubuntu is better supported. I could not use budgie. it didn't show a install complete window after the first install. the second install, after the reboot, it stayed on a blank screen.
I installed Kubuntu 24.04 LTS and it works.

About version to version upgrades: quote: Probably not, average person will need to reinstall every 4 years or so (when the version stops being supported). MX21 is supported till 2026... Adrian MX Linux dev. I disagree about the theming because for instance CachyOS KDE theme is even worse. I don't use the default theme BTW on MX, but Arc dark. What's wrong with a PDF user manual?
Quote: The DistroWatch Page Hit Ranking statistics are a light-hearted way of measuring interest in Linux distributions and other free operating systems among the visitors of this website. They correlate neither to usage nor to quality and should not be used to measure the market share of distributions. They simply show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch was accessed each day, nothing more.
