Sounds similar to what Admiral Yi did several times against the Japanese in the Imjin war (might have got the name of the war wrong)

Interesting fact about this battle, it happened after Athens had been sacked by the persians and the athenians resorted to asking the rest of the greek world to assemble at Salamis, which they refused, wanting to dig in on Corinth. So, in an absolute baller move, the Athenians threatened to take their navy and simply evacuate their people (stationed at the beaches of Salamis) to Italy leaving all of Greece without a mayor naval component that would be key to defeating the Persians.

Fun fact: The Philippines also had a small battle of Thermopylae of their own called “Battle of Tirad Pass” against the Americans.

The number of Americans and Filipinos vary from different sources (but all say that the Filipino forces were VASTLY outnumbered), but it was certain that the battle was utter devastation for the Philippine forces, but despite this, they succeeded in their objective in holding the forces long enough.

When in Greece:
Do not f*ck with the Spartans on land.
And do not f*ck with the Athenians at sea.

You should cover the Beheading War (aka Federalist Revolt) in Southern Brazil. I am currently reading a book about it and it is very interesting, it would be very cool to see you talk about it.

I read it as "Battle of Salami" and thought it was gonna be a food war.

I’m reading the Long War series by Christian Cameron right now and it does a great job of explaining battles like this one.

Did not expect the pronunciation to be that. I really thought it would sound like the food Salami.

What's interesting is the story of Artemisia, a Greek Queen who fought against the Greeks under the command of the Persian King. She was the only of his war council to advise against the battle of Salamis. She ended up surviving the battle by crashing her ship into her own allies to confuse the Greeks. She ended up winning the Persian King's respect for voicing her own opinion and for the whole crashing her ship thing with him saying, "My men have become women and my women men"

Between this, Marathon and Thermopoly, the Greeks definitely earned the mythical status that the Renaissance gave them. Then adding Alexander in a couple centuries later, the Greeks were just built different back then.

You forgot to mention how the naval commander was an athenian politician who had to convince everyone Crete (or another island nation im blanking on) was going to invade and ships would be needed to head them off…because the greeks after the battle of marathon basically thought navy’s were useless. Especially the persian navy.

I would be hesitant to think of this war as "saving the west" it certainly saved the greek cities from being subjugated.

The swastika wasn’t always a nazi symbol. Just because it’s on the shield don’t get your panties in a bunch. I got you papa stakuyi
It’s common knowledge, but still, some people don’t go through the effort of looking into something before opening their mouth.

The scottish repeated this on land at Sterling castle. Outmanned, outclassed but used the river and the woods to use the advantage the english had in numbers and calvary to trap them and crush them.
