France goes to the polls on Sunday in snap parliamentary elections. President Emmanuel Macron called the vote in response to his party's dismal showing in the European elections earlier this month. It's a gamble for Macron. He hopes to see off right-wing opponents - but may end up losing power. We spoke to DW’s correspondent Sonia Phalnikar in Paris about what's at stake for France.

Yes, let's ask Paris, the place where people who have opinions quite different from that of most of the French on this issue 😂

German news channel with an Asian reporter reporting on French elections about the far right. I guess she would have a better feeling of the issue than a French journalist. 😂

It is a mistake to focus on Paris here. It is almost the only place where the RN didn't succeed. If you want to understand France, leave the capital.

Looking at how things are going you can easily find the answer to your childish question.

People are frustated because in the name of immigration all criminals and extremist enter the country. Now local and other hard working business people (from outside) who invested are facing problem and uncertainty.
Some people do not respect local life style and culture they want to implement there religious ideologies (specific community). This is a serious threat globally for Science, technology and progress. I think french people have make a smart decision in the coming days ahead not just short but long term.

If the voters choose not to vote for the far right, there will be no surge for the far right. So . . . It's entirely the responsibility of the voters. Macron is in office until 2027, regardless of the outcome :-)

The name of the party is the National Front, and you persistently call them the Extreme Right.

This distraction sux. I don't understand how the EU works good enough to say much. I don't know what to say.

No, if a politician did exactly what he did under the same circumstances in 1924, would DW call it a gamble?

if you are so tone deaf, incapable of understanding the real questions people are facing then you get this result... maybe its time to stop yelling 'far right' and start listening to what the people are truly saying

Hopefully it will. I'm sick and tired of his neoliberal and warmongering ideology!

Have a shot every time you hear “far right” and you will pass out halfway through the video.

Yes without a doubt. Italy is lost, Hungary is lost. Now France has fallen.
