In this video we’re going to explain France’s parliamentary system and why Macron has taken what appears to be a massive gamble that could end up with Marine Le Pen’s protégé, Jordan Bardella, as prime minister.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

UPDATE: Things are moving quickly so here is an update on some things that have happened since this video was written:
- National Rally ruled out forming an alliance with Reconquest
- Republican party leader Eric Ciotti said he wanted to form an alliance with National Rally, but this sparked uproar within his party (previously the mainstream centre-right party in France) with some lawmakers quitting in protest and senior party figures demanding Ciotti's resignation
- The main parties on the left have agreed to form a 'popular front' alliance to fight the election, but it remains to be seen who will lead it (and the question of leadership will be a major point of contention)

Our economy is struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.

I am half French (live abroad) so was really interested in seeing a more comprehensive analysis of Macron's motives, but all the coverage I found was quite superficial and unimformative. Thank you so much for this material and your work more generally, this explanation was really well done

This might backfire, hard. People don’t like to be treated as pawns.

If the British PM calls a snap election there is the jeopardy that he might not just be out of power but no longer an MP.

Macron calls a snap election and regardless of the result he is still in power. I'm sure his party's MPs must be feeling grateful to their leader 😂

Short answer: because France's 2025 budget is devastating, and he plans to make other parties bear the blame, while he created 1 000 billions € debt in 7 years.

"Let me copy your homework"-Macron to Sánchez

Edit: I commented this before actually watching the video lol. However it must be pointed out that Sánchez had managed to win over gambles like that repeatedly, unlike Macron

but the most important question is: has Ciotti finally opened the door of the LR office? :D

If President Emmanuel Macron loses the upcoming June elections, he would still remain the President of France unitl 2027. As President he has significant powers in areas such as foreign policy, defense, and domestic security. So technically, he has not that much to loose if he looses.

lots of people don't seem to understand Macrons not going anywhere for three years, this is a legislative lection not a presidential one, the PM may change but the President will stay. The president manages foreign policy so any imperialists hoping this will lead a pro-putain approach to Ukraine will be disappointed,
