Can be added, the Phonicians, I ersbelieve, gave Number values to their Letters. They were Traders throughout the Mediterranean World. Today, Hebrew, Farsi, and Arabic have this, and others, I'm sure. Also, the Middle East following the life of Mohammad, was rich in Oral Traditions. Everyone memorized Epic Poems. The early Muslims collected Writings from all over the known World, including preserving the works of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.
