I agree with you: The kick moves in a way that resembles that of, say, a yo-yo cast forward into the air, then yanked back into the hand. I love seeing crescent kicks, partly because it takes such strong abs and hips to do one with great speed. You probably know of the famous scene from the movie, "Billy Jack." The movie sucks, but Tom Laughlin pulls off a beautiful slo-mo outside crescent kick against an opponent who's about two feet in front of him. The best part of the scene? Laughlin tells the guy what he's going to do, and how he's going to do it. He also tells him that he'll have no way to stop it. If you've not seen the clip, it's worth the look. Definitely a twist kick. Incredible work in an opportunistic strike.

We don't know which kind of kick it is exactly because he makes contact with the other fighter and thus doesn't follow all the wall through with it. They both have the same initial motion.
