Imagine ships not just navigating rivers but actually sailing hundreds of feet above mountains.

Welcome to the megadams ship lifts—incredible engineering marvels that make it possible for vessels to cross huge height differences and glide through the skies of China's mountainous terrain.

In this video, we explore some of the highest, largest, and most innovative ship lifts across the world—including the record-breaking Goupitan and Three Gorges lifts.

From understanding the challenges posed by massive dams to uncovering how giant counterweight systems make lifting thousands of tons seem almost effortless, we’ll break down the remarkable feats of engineering that make these "ships in the sky" possible.

If you enjoyed this video, give it a thumbs up and subscribe for more deep dives into the world’s most incredible infrastructure projects. Don’t forget to hit the bell icon so you never miss an update on engineering wonders!

Just imagine how long it would take for US or UK to develop something like this using their advanced infrastructure technologies

The Goupitan shiplift is not only an amazing bit of engineering, but it is also an economic miricle, they got it done for under USD800 Million and not the multi-Billions such a project would cost in the US, Canada, the UK or anywhere else in the industrial

Thanks for including data in proper measurement units.
Really informative video!

Most of the weight that is lifted is water, not ship.

This also explains why the Chinese adopted gravity batteries to storage renewable energy, as the fundamental technology has been proven and could be very reliable.
