£7084 to cover a 1.0 third party is just criminal. I would never agree to pay that amount, even if i could afford it. I would rather not drive. Just isn't worth it, period...

Those prices are completely eye watering. As an auto driver, I do very much get the logic behind your thinking on the increased claims. They are insanely easy to drive. I've found trying to drive as economically as possible in my EV gets me thinking way ahead and driving very smoothly. If you're just hitting the gas and zooming off though, I can definitely see things getting missed and forgotten more than they should.

And Boomers say millennials whine to much when the average cost off lessons, test, first cheap car and insurance is your annual income

when I lived in the UK, I told my driving instructor that only having an hour driving lesson was not working for me, I said I needed a two hour lesson, and that we should go on roads that I did not know, so that I would read the road and conditions, and be in the correct gear at all times .This worked for me and I passed first time . I got my sons to do the same thing when they had driving lessons, they both passed first time .

Utterly ridiculous insurance rates, how are ordinary young people supposed to afford to drive at all? It's a crazy situation that the government requires you to buy insurance, but does not regulate it in any meaningful way. One might almost suspect the goal is to prevent people from driving...

I'd just like to mention a way around fronting;
I pay £400 a year for insurance, I'm 18 just finished college (and you helped me pass thanks by the way)
I have a black/telematics box policy, fully comp, 10, 000 miles a year.

The policy is held in my mum's name, however, I am listed as the main driver, this is possible with tesco black box insurance at least, we asked them if we could do this, they explained it was fully okay. Downside: I don't build any NCD

For those that don't mind taking an extra risk, getting a few years on the road on the 50 or 125cc motorbike or a moped could be a good way to save money on your first car insurance. I was able to move my 4 years NCB from the motorbike policy to insure a 12 year old Mercedes A150 for about £500. It was a bit of a hunt to find an insurer that would accept the NCB, but well worth it, as I've saved about £1000 on the first year of policy.

I passed this morning with only 2 faults! So pleased. These videos were a lifesaver to keep my brain in driving mode in between my weekly lessons :D Alas, I am an auto driver, so this video has come at a good time before I buy my first car...

I passed today (automatic) 😀. What a relief I can’t explain. This was my second attempt. Videos in this channel and others helped as I did not pay penny to any instructor or booking agents. I could drive for 12 months based on my international license.

I passed my test within the last 2 weeks and managed to buy a 1.5L 112hp 2014 Mini Cooper D manual for £4300 and got an Admiral quote for £1500 comprehensive cover WITHOUT a black box. I live on the southern coast of the UK and both my parents were on the insurance. A lot of my friends are restricted by a black box so I feel super lucky to be able to do without one. Get the car in 3 days, super hyped!

I think its age . Pure and simple. I passed my automatic driving test in the last year. I'm in my 50's . Family circumstances meant I had to have access to a car .

So my thought process was that it would actually be safer to go automatic seeing as being 'older I won't have muscle memory of decades of actual driving.

I live in the NE of England. Have a decent job

After passing I purchased a nearly new 2023 Small Hatchback 1Ltr 110hp auto, with all the gizmos. at 19k

I was expecting some eye watering insurance .( fully comp ) . But to my surprise it wasn't bad at all.
So much so I had to triple check all the information I provided to make sure I hadn't unwittingly made a balls up ..But no. My insurer informed me my age ( old ) meant even though I was an auto, a new driver the number was correct . my insurance came in under a grand. So yeah being a middle aged fart is the key apparently :D .
Oh and I can't recommend this channel enough . It one of the best to use on your journey to passing your test ( as well as your instructor of course) .
