As a Brazilian that has lived in Rio and in Salvador, I recommend tourists to take some safety measures or course, but u guys don't need to be TOO SCARED, cause it's not that bad ... enjoy the city, if you're going to open spaces dont wear expensive things and when u go to shopping malls and things like that u can look like a Kardashian 🤣🤣 ( u will be safe in those places ).

Rio is 100% safe. Just bad stories. The city of malmö Sweden is more unsafe than Rio. If you are stupid any city unsafe. My father slept drunk outside in praça mauá during the early 90s and praça mauá was considered one of the worst plaza in the world he had money on him, camera and watch but no one even touched him. The Brazilian people are probably the most friendly people in the world and if you treat them with respect you will be more than respected back.

I'm brazilian and i just don't get it why people wants to go to favelas, i mean what's the point ? People in favelas are living in a very bad conditions and i am pretty sure, that they don't want to be exposed by anyone .

Hi there, I just discovered your channel watching 26 things to do in Dubai - great content 👍🏻 I say this with respect so this isn’t me taking any cheap shots ;-) but watching your Rio experience, it would seem that you unfortunately did buy into the hype regarding safety concerns about Rio. In fact, you were hyper aware about having this fear. (I guess one could argue it’s better to be aware than to have regrets later) anyway, fun fact, my first trip to Rio, I booked my tickets and accommodation totally out of the blue at a minutes notice and after I had made my bookings etc I started doing research and watched all these videos on the internet about just how unsafe Rio is. At this point I was already thinking, this was a mistake and how can I cancel my bookings. I was a little concerned and apprehensive about going but as soon as I landed in São Paulo, I just laughed and realised that I had nothing to fear. Landing in Rio at Santos Dumont at 8am (within the first 5min all fear had left) as a result, I’ve been back plenty of times and lived there for 2 years. Favourite city in the world.

Well the biggest proof that Rio is NOT safe is you were constantly looking over your shoulder !

Really sounds like you need a credible guide to enjoy brazil and Rio. If your gonna spend the money to go to rio you might as well spend a little more to actually have a local that can look out for ya so you can relax a bit and let your guard down.

Yeah.... it’s not safe. Brazilians grow up developing a radar for crimes, you need to constantly be aware, but the locals are use to it

The best beaches in Brazil are in south regions in Brazil like Santa Catarina state, come and you'll see. Here is not a dangerous place for tourists, you can come here and fell in peace. There are a lot of beautiful beaches and night life here. And most of people are lovely.

I have lived in Brazil for over 10 years, and I have a very bad experience. I've been robbed more than 3 times, my family has been kidnapped (they only stole money and didn't hurt, luckily). There was a time when my colleague didn't return money I lent, and when I ask about it they get angry. Worse is that many bandits use their money to buy drugs. I've heard a case where an elderly man lost all his belongings, even documents because of the robbery and he's living on the street now. I became a youtuber to show the reality of Brazil to the poor immigrants who are arriving here

Rio is safe in the turistic points (that have a lots of cops) after that is very dangerous because is full of favelas and poverty.

i'm all for travel but i don't like constantly looking over my shoulder f that. That being said, when traveling to south america you should always be aware, and don't be stupid. I mean, that's kind of anywhere but i don't think you have to look over your shoulder in Santiago or Lima.

I'm Brazilian and being so I know that my country is more dangerous than any others people consider so. Like anywhere, you need to know where you can or can't go. As for the communities (favelas) they have the most amazing views of Rio. By the way, Copacabana is the most targeted place in Rio because robbers know that this is the favorite spot for most foreigners.
What I recommend is come to Brazil with a concern it's dangerous but don't think, talk, see about violence because this is what you gonna get, anywhere in the world.
