Great hack. I never knew the sport cap fit in the end like that. Thanks!

I’ve got to get one of these filters. Nice review and tip!

You can take the white lid off of the squeeze, and it will do the same thing.

@CarlsonAdventures can the mini be flushed the same way?

I'm wondering if it's specifically has to be a smart water bottle in order to backflush?
I know I can screw other brand water bottles to filter the other direction.

I wonder how long it will take for one of those Smart bottles used to backflush will start cracking?

Maybe try the 10-oz. Accmor shaker/dredge as both Pre-filter & mug? Why aren't there hard-plastic Pre-filters available that can screw onto a 6-oz. wide-mouth spice-jar? (they should mimick salt-shakers insofar as having holes punched into their screw-on tops). I'd then use the pre-filter spice jar to draw water, then unscrew the pre-filter in order to pour the pre-filtered water from spice-jar into SmartWater bottle. I'd repeat that several times until SmartWater bottle is full. Then I'd connect the SmartWater to the Sawyer which would be connected to Katadyn Refillable carbon-cartridge (see Highwater Filters demo - except picture my spice-jar instead of Highwater's colored-jar). I'd then squeeze Two-Ounces of water into the spice-jar for purpose of cleaning it, because the spice-jar would serve as my drinking cup, into which i'd squeeze 6-oz. of chemical-free water.

The cap on my filter is not a push/pull cap. It is a solid cap that flips up. This must be a change and I can tell I do not like it. Push/pull or sports cap is the way to go. I am also disapointed that Sawyer does not offer more in the way of instructions on how to use. They provide a lure lock syringe instead of a catheter tip syringe for back flush. The lure lock is made to screw onto a female lure lock so in this use it does not wrok well as you try to hold everything while flushing. I have to search the internet to try and find all the little nuances of use. Thanks for the tip! I think I will go back to LifeStraw.

Attn. Carlson - please add this for the ATTN. OF LESS MUSCULAR PEOPLE: Please note that if you have poor muscle tone, it may seem like the nozzle of the Sawyer-squeeze does not fit into the nipple of the SmartWater bottle. SOLUTION: Use utmost pressure to get the Sawyer nozzle into the SmartWater's nipple-hole. Nope - the nipple-hole did not break on me - even though I was scared it would. (I myself am weak which is why I'm always scared I'm using too much force on things.)
