Wow, 100k miles of OpenPilot. What a great review. I just found this product today and it's pretty much what I want for my new Rav4. The lane assist is terrifying in it's ping ponging so I never use it. At high speeds it does little more than give me massive anxiety. The adaptive cruise control is really an aggressive breaker, where the Honda Sense stuff is much better at detecting cars further out. I use the cruise all the time though, it's still very good. But a car that can drive me places when I don't really want to.... well we have a winner!

I have a VW ID.4 and it’s built in ‘open pilot’ is terrific, there is no need to put this on in. 92k miles and it’s going strong.

100K - you got me beat by about 20K. I don't actually know because I forgot to capture the miles I put on with the Comma 2 (I'm at 43K with my Comma 3). Everything you said is true. In fact, we've decided on our next car based on (in part) it's OpenPilot support. My wife thought I was crazy to spend the money on the first one; now she won't drive without it!

In pandemic, my neighbor, his wife worked for the UN and he was an AI patent attorney which is like a lawyer except they pass the bar and he may have been board certified i dunno, anyway, i bought a rav 4 prime, which can't use CommaAI self driving suite, or assisted driving, but he traded his mitsubishi uh eclipse suv crossover for the same year rav 4 hybrid and i brushed off his git/github skill via a "do you know the difference between git merge vs git rebase" bc you need to be doctor strange sometimes, anyway he just needed to checkout the right branch which is -b or whatever it changes and i use zshell, or ohmyzshell or whatever. THEN we took his car on the I-95. and didn't use our hands, and then...we left.

my only concern is that every time you get out of the car you have to take it down or someone will break into your car and steal it. It would be nice to see a version that is more integrated. It is so prominent and visible from outside the car, seems like it would be a thief magnet

Well, Does OpenPilot obey stop signs and traffic light intersections automatically (slow down and stop)? Or do you have to take control at any one of these???
Comparing this to my Tesla Auto Pilot which does not obey stop signs or Traffic lights, i have to take over control of Auto Pilot when there are no cars in front of me.
Seems like mounting that large interface right in the middle/dead center of the window makes the device really bad for having visual blind spots for the driver at intersections. i notice blind spots with just regular mirrors in my vehicles and sometimes miss seeing cars to the right.

Seems Comma/OpenPilot is the same as Auto Pilot in my Tesla. It is just an enhanced Cruise Control which follow the road contours.
