Superman wasn’t even trying to kill Stepphanwolf, he destroyed his axe kicked him and gave him a warning shot with his heat vision
And even then stepphanwolf decided to fight superman, and superman brutality beat him cut his horn with his heat vision
If superman wanted to he could have killed stepphanwolf anytime but superman stood by his code of not killing

My favorite aspect of Snyder’s Superman is how nearly every single one of his movements in combat are gentle and effortless, like how he simply flies over to Wolf before dodging him, it’s just without care. It makes Superman seem all that more powerful, he just exudes confidence
