How Old Are Magneto and Rogue? 😅

A somewhat contentious storyline in X-Men '97 has sparked curiosity about the ages of Magneto and Rogue in the series. Launched on Disney Plus in mid-March 2024, X-Men '97 quickly became one of the highest-rated Marvel productions ever. It picks up where X-Men: The Animated Series left off, following the near-death and eventual exit of the X-Men's leader, Charles Xavier. This led to Magneto inheriting the X-Mansion, where he now strives to uphold his old friend's legacy.

Edit: To future people who may wonder, Magneto’s children are Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Pietro Maximoff (Quicksilver), Lorna Dane (Polaris), and Anya Eisenhardt. It’s also possible that Lorna’s sister Zala Dane (Zaladane) is a child of Magneto too, but this has never been confirmed.

Magneto's powers, and numerous instances of de-aging, as well as other factors have kept him at his physical prime longer. He may be chronologically older, but his body is much stronger for a man his age.

I'd figure Rogue is likely a bit older than her 20s. Her powers absorb life force, powers, memories, and personality. Not to mention she sapped the enormous power from Carol Danvers giving her flight permanently

The topic of Rogue’s age gets even weirder, but the gist of it is that in her comic debut she was a middle aged woman who was part of the same villain group(teammates) of Mystique rather than a teenager she took in.

She had two streaks of grey hair and a significantly older, slightly wrinkled facial structure, however one writer used her as Dazzler’s main rival in her series, but another writer didn’t like that writer and that they were using mutant characters outside of X-men, so retconned her age and had her join the X-men causing Dazzler’s old run to lose its main villain early on.

They kept the white streak in her hair, but explained it away as a result of her powers and made it one patch rather than two streaks

The real issue is that she was definitely a young teenager when they first met, and it's clear from their interaction in the show that they had romantic history prior.

Rogue was roughly 18-19 when she joined the X-Men. So in her 20s is accurate. I love the voice actress's line reads but Rogue sounds like she's in her 50s.

For reference, if Eric was 5 when Auschwitz was liberated, he would be 52 in 1997. Even if we are generous and assume Rogue is 35 in 1997, that would be a 17 year age gap.

However, Eric is usually portrayed during his years in the camp as being 11-16. Rogue, on the other hand, appears to be a young woman in her prime, in the 24-27 age range, though her power does make this hard to gauge, especially since she's already taken Ms. Marvel's Kree powers.

This means the most likely age-gap is 31-39 years.
