The Cabin Walls + Predator Attack: Part 1

Previously, we built the interior load bearing wall for the boys bedroom wing. All 23 roof rafters were cut and installed and we framed the first exterior angular wall. Life was flowing as normal between the farm, build and work.... until it wasn't. We sustained an attack by a large predator that would throw our next week into a complete tail spin as we desperately tried to gain control of the situation.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and the buiness/work related side of our life can be found on our secondary channel "Josh and Erin- The After Show". Here you will see us renovating our Cafe, opening/operating the Cafe with goods from our farm, building/furnishing/running our short term rentals, finding/operating our other real estate investments and more.

We sustained brutal attacks this week. We have worked relentlessly to gain control of the situation and hope to have an update to you before the end of this week. Needless to say, the week started out as normal before taking a turn for the worst but we’re pushing ahead to ensure everyone is safe so we are able to return to building.
We appreciate your patience!

You two need to write a book about time management and how to do it successfully. The way you can bounce from one job to another and pick up speed is overwhelming for most of us to comprehend how you do it. I've never seen anyone who can change hats so often and stay successful with their businesses until I saw you two. You two set the standard!

Josh, as a 50-year carpenter who has used nail guns most of the way, I cringe when I see you toe-nailing those gable wall studs in, without any eye protection. I've worn ANSI rated eyeglasses for most of my career. Many moons ago, I was toe-nailing some 2x6 studs in, and my third nail hit the second nail. It curled up and ricocheted back at me, striking my lens dead center. Taking a chip out of the lens. It was a lucky break that I've never forgotten some thirty years later! Erin, you're hereby appointed the jobsite (no pun intended) safety coordinator. I really enjoy watching your videos each week! (With both eyes.)

Erin, you are wicked. You work as hard as any man. Josh is a lucky man.

Agree on the dog subject. I have a Great Pyrenees and they are really good at their job.

Canadian here. We have lots of predators. My sister as a sheep ranch right up against the mountains and has a Great Pyrenees dog and sometimes two, as well as a boarder Collie . She does bring them into smaller paddocks at night but the Pyrenees stayed with the sheep always, and they have had very little predation from cougars, bears, cougars or coyotes. They are lovely, friendly dogs to people too.

Time for a new addition to the farm. Great Pyrenees.

I am amazed that you don’t have livestock guardian dogs to cover everything since you are both so busy.

You know the dryer door can be switched too? Just like the fridge door. Seems easier to me than to move plumbing.

So sorry about the loss. I know that is your top priority to keep everyone safe. Blessings to you.

Guardian dogs are the only real protection. It's not if, but when a predator comes around 😢

Our ducks and chickens were raided by bobcats here in Florida they even took the guinea off our roof. My granddaughter’s wonderful husband is home from deployment and has secured everything he can. My great grandson closed the duck house door, I went over to check on it 4 days later and heard the babies inside, my 2 year older great grandson went in and got the 5 sweet babies. ❤

Sorry about your loss on the farm. My sister’s dog was attacked by coyotes on Cape Cod recently. Scary.

Erin, all of today's appliances are designed so that, if need be, you can switch the hinges and the latches on the doors so they can open up either left to right, or right to left. You don't need to alter any plumbing or electrical work to make the appliance work right.

What a treat to watch these two beautiful people once a week, at work on the house or farm—or on the many other places in which they perform—as they laugh and love💕We are so, so lucky!!

I secretly ordered some lavender lemon soap while watching you cut soap. When it came, I waited until you were in the new candle and soap building to take it out and give it to Martha. She was so pleased. Thank you and God bless!

I can't believe how you two have managed to place such heavy boards and beams on your build. Wowza. You are strong and determined. You inspire others to try things they don't think they can do.
