For two decades, OpenCourseWare has been sharing MIT teaching materials with the world. In that time, OCW has become a robust, free educational resource thousands of people rely on every day to improve their knowledge, circumstances, and communities.

As we mark 20 years of OCW, we are celebrating the community of learners, MIT faculty, and collaborators who have made OCW a change agent for education at MIT and around the world, and helped launch the modern open education movement.

With special thanks to MIT President Rafael Reif, MIT Vice President for Open Learning Sanjay Sarma, MIT Sloan ’21 Zach Erdman, MIT Class of ’21 Mussie Demisse, Abhay Parkeh SM ‘86, PhD ’92, Tekkatho Foundation’s May Thet Khine Nyein, OCW learner Aboo Fatally, OCW Director Curt Newton, MIT Professor Amah Edoh ’02 PhD ’16, College of the Canyons’ Dean, Educational Technology, Learning Resources, and Distance Learning James Glapa-Grossklag, OCW Senior Manager for Open Educator and Strategic Initiatives Sarah Hansen, University of Santo Tomas Professor Evelyn Laurito, OCW learner Leo Alcock, and MIT Dean for Digital Learning Krishna Rajagopal.

Thank you MIT for providing the means for everyone to learn without having to go anywhere. For all those who can't physically attend, watching online lectures makes it feel like we're actually in the class.

I have never commented on YouTube but reminiscing on how OCW changed my education I could not stop. Even as a student at another university, OCW has been a life-changing platform for me, and I am glad to see it grow even more!

I have never seen walls of your university, yet i have intellectually grown up on your videos. Probability theory, calculus, finance, statistics, linear algebra and many more great courses that have immensely helped me more than any course in my university. Thank you!!!

We liked the opportunity to see what classes you'd have to take for any degree. Explaining the mission statement of OCW (in the beginning), and demonstrating OCW to the daughter of a friend, she chose astronomy for a sample degree plan. After kidding about Astrology we looked over the classes for 1st Semester degree in Astronomy and saw Ridells principles of the Universe. Having never heard of Ridell, I knew right off the bat the usefulness of the program. As we looked through other classes in other semesters, one can get a sense of what you are in for but we never expected what happened next. A little doe-eyed she said, "I thought Astronomy was sitting behind a big telescope and counting stars". Oy Vey. Client lost to follow-up.
If I remember right, OCW started with a 10 million dollar grant to demonstrate why you should come to MIT. Those of us in another world took what we could (sort of like Wikipedia) and recognized we had a good overview of so many topics... Thank you Sincerely, Lawson di Ransom Canyon ps unedited, sry.
