Should I Future Proof? Running a Water Line & Trying to Decide if I Should Run Sewer Line Too?

Decisions decisions. It's so hard to strike the right balance between doing what is required and thinking ahead. What do you guys think I should do? Run a sewer line in addition to the water line? I'll have the trench open anyway so why not right?

I'll let you know what I end up doing... Share your thoughts!

Blessings,

Ben

I added a poll question to the video at 3:55 ! Let me know what you would do? Future proof or no? Thanks!

Run the water line. Put a pipe sleave under the driveway for a future sewer. Don't put a floor drain into your septic system. Dig a dry well for the floor drain

Don't need a connection to the well house for rain drainage. You should be able to just run a drain line that empties out into the yard, as long as to maintain a 1/4" drop per foot or higher if you can. It not as if your well house is going to get flooded with raw sewage. That said, Consider running 2" electrical PCB so that can run data or extra power cabling over to the well house or garage or if you decide to add another outbuilding (ie Workshop or office for your business)

Ambitions lead to a lot more work than I can actually ever do or will get around to, but the same feeling of ambition can at least be my "upper limit" of how much I want to "future proof". If some future-proofing is being done "for someone else's benefit" or "maybe one day" then it's no good. If it feels like it will very clearly enable something that either a) I want to work on as soon as possible, or b) it enables a project I can really outline in detail, that's a good sign.

Always future proof. Build items higher than plane so that they don't get flooded out on the first place. Once you landscape and build a drive, you won't want to dig it back up.

If you are covering access to the future plans of gravel driveway and/or sidewalk then that should be considered. Sometimes future proofing is actually just prior proper planning. Take some advice from a 65 year old Montana boy who has retired to a ranch in Tennessee. If you can do it now the future will have its own problems.

The floor drain functionality to safegaurd the well casing puts my opinion at 50/50. If you are contemplating a bath (future) then dig once and be done. Nobody like digging up with a driveway, sidewalk, and in the way. Pipe is cheap when the trench is open is my motto about trenching.

I would usually future proof, but in this case I would agree and just run water because of time (and costs) as the well house could be fixed with a sump pump. I would future plan here, just make sure you run the water to easily have the route accessible for the sewer in the future. Also it seems you have access to a backhoe so if its not store rented, that cost is probably more minimal to use in the future.

Absolutely do not put drainage water into your septic system. If you do that it could cause the system to fail. A sump pump is an option but they can fail or you could lose power. Drain your storm water through gravity (if possible) away from your property. Good luck man
