TEDxKelowna - Curtis Stone - Urban Farming

Показать описание
A musician turned urban farmer, Curtis Stone is the owner/operator of Green City Acres, an urban farm based out of Kelowna, BC. Green City Acres farms under an acre of land spread out amongst seven different urban plots to grow vegetables for various direct consumer markets throughout Kelowna. All transport is accomplished using only bicycles and custom built trailers. Having no prior experience as a farmer or gardener, Curtis started his farm simply out of a desire to be more autonomous, and to make a living by the triple bottom line principle. His farm has now completed two successful seasons, employs one other person full time, and is still growing. During his off-season, Curtis works as a public speaker, teacher, and consultant, sharing his story and inspiring a new generation of farmers.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx[Kelowna], where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDx[Kelowna] event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized

Bro, Im also a musician turned farmer, And i happen to have looked alot like you before I grew my hair, lol. Love what your doing, your video is life changing, however my gut is screaming out in protest to the roto-tilling method. I have no experience with turning lawns into gardens, but deep down i know that sheet mulching or some kind of no-tilling method is certainly the answer. I hope for you to take the time, re-think your methods, try new things, and figure out which works best. But you do not have to haul around a roto-tiller and spend money on gasoline, your whole process is beautiful besides that detail. Hope you read this and best of luck to you, love you man

I did a short Doc, which Curtis Stone helped me greatly by talking for. Check it out if you are interested in Curtis Stone's vision, spin farming, and the lawn discussion. It's called "a Growing Vision" on youtube
