Goldenvoice, the company organizing Coachella signed a contract with the city of Indio, California in 2013 that runs until 2050. The contract allows Goldenvoice to host Coachella in Indio every year.

But here's the part you didn't know - as part of that contract the city negotiated that the musical performances must end by 1 AM each night.

The contract includes specific terms stating that if the festival continues even five minutes past 1 AM, Goldenvoice will have to pay a $20,000 fine. Every minute after that costs them an additional $1,000.

After showing up over an hour late, Frank Ocean abruptly ended his set early to the disappointment of thousands of fans. The $1,000 per minute fine is why Frank Ocean was told that he MUST stop performing when his set ran 25 minutes past curfew. In total, Goldenvoice can thank Frank and other artists for costing them $117,000 worth of fines for the weekend.
