🎯 Key points for quick navigation:

00:00:00 *🤖 IIoT Overview and Integration Challenges*
- IIoT aims to enhance business efficiency by integrating diverse industrial systems like PLCs, SCADA, MES, and ERP.
- Traditional integration methods involve specific engineering efforts to connect these systems, often using technologies like OPC UA.
- Lack of integration leads to inefficiencies, such as manual data handling and disconnected systems across manufacturing processes.
00:29:00 *🌐 MES and ERP Integration Challenges*
- MES systems traditionally rely on SCADA for data, not directly interfacing with the plant floor equipment.
- Disconnect between MES and ERP systems requires manual data entry and handling, leading to increased costs and inefficiencies.
- IIoT proposes a solution by integrating MES directly with ERP through a unified namespace, reducing reliance on manual data processes.
02:23:00 *📡 IIoT Benefits and Implementation Strategy*
- IIoT enables all industrial devices, including PLCs, routers, and sensors, to publish data to a unified namespace.
- This approach facilitates seamless integration across SCADA, MES, ERP, and cloud systems, reducing integration costs and improving data accessibility.
- Manufacturers adopting IIoT-supported devices can streamline data consumption across their operational layers, enhancing overall operational efficiency.

In your example - machine builders will be responsible for providing IIoT enabled equipment. Agree Agree. However, there are many manufacturers that aren't procuring new equipment and/or have equipment - the OEM is no longer around. They too need to get their legacy automation connected. My point being that manufacturers will in the near-term have to invest @ the PLC level.

Excellent videos, Walker. Thank you for sharing your insights!

Question: What online courses or good-reads do you recommend to get further insights into this topic?

My background is in ERP/MES-integrations for Sheet-Metal Manufacturing.

That's a really good insight into industry 4.0. Can you make a video on what are all the technologies involved at each layer of automation stack and technologies involved to integrate different layers?

The beauty is if you have UN, there is no concept of upstream vs downstream system or data, dependency mgmt become super flexible and adding new process will not incur new integration.
