Segregation in schools ended in 1954, Grease was set in 1958. Highly doubtful that they would have treated African American students in such a welcoming way.

I am already annoyed at how ethnically diverse the group is, and that is not racist for me to say. It’s highly unlikely that a group like that would form in 1958. Also the “greaser” was a look primarily established by Italian Americans who were the working classes. That is why in the original Grease the majority of the characters are Italian American. If they can’t treat the era the film is set with historical accuracy, then I already call bullshit on this film. Disappointing.
