Intro to Hunting Public Land Pheasants in South Dakota

This video is a lot of talking and screen shots. Basically, I wanted to show people who aren't from SD, (or are perhaps just getting into pheasant hunting in the state) but want to hunt pheasants on public land how I would start my online scouting process. I'm not saying this is right and it certainly isn't definitive, but I'm hoping it will provide a foundation.

I said it multiple times in the video and will say it again - I'm not advocating the Huron area or the public parcels I show in the video. They just happened to be in front of me as I was putting this video together.

Anyway, it feels good to be back and I am chomping at the bit to get out and get after it. Less than two months!

Welcome back! I always enjoy watching your videos. You made alot of great points and for being an out of state hunter that hunts South dakota you hit the nail on the head. We used to come out and hunt from 10am and never stop until shooting light, take the mid day to scout and take a break. Also the website you are using has a mobile app that is very useful. Looking forward to our upcoming hunt in October. Keep the videos coming.

Greatly appreciate your video! I'm soon retiring from the Army after 25 years of service and planning a "bucket list" trip with my Dad and oldest son this fall (October 23) to South Dakota. You mentioned camping but did not elaborate. We are planning on driving an RV to South Dakota and camping. If you could comment or even consider doing a piece on camping, as well as where to park an RV rig on public lands that would be most helpful. Thanks and good hunting!

I've enjoyed watching your channel for a while now. Recently, I've had the fortune to move to SD where my youngest is starting at DSU. I'll be rebranding my channel and getting it off the ground but would be awesome to do an episode with you and Sage. BTW - my very first trip to Ft Pierre National Grassland last Saturday was successful. I came home with 3 prairie chickens! I'll be my first 2022 episode. More to come.

Thanks for the timely video! Judging from the number of views, I’m not alone anxiously waiting for the time we can go afield with our dogs and hunting partners. I’m looking forward to the bird season!

Love your videos and tell all my pheasant hunting friends to check you out. One question I have for you is what is your settings for your shotkam that you get such good quality videos? I bought one last year and couldn't get a video to save my life.

Starting to do some minor research. Retireing in approximately 5 years plan on getting back into pheasant hunting But don't have the legs I used to. Is it legal in South Dakota to shoot off the road? I know some states gravel yes, pavement, no.

I missed this video! Nice work. I got notifications turned on AGAIN now . Let me tell everyone that we have hunted the Huron are the last 2 years. There are no birds there. Don't even try.

one thing about time of day in Nebraska is that if you don't get there in the morning someone will have hunted your spot.

You might have mentioned it and I missed it, hunting waterfowl production areas requires non-tox doesn't it?
