Learn from TWRA's Michael Parsley and new Tennessee hunter Nathan Russell on how to find good public land to hunt when you don't even know where to begin. Nathan Russell moved from Texas and was forced to start hunting all new territory. He has agreed to come on and help you learn from his successes and failures. He will explain what technology he uses to find good public ground, how he beats the crowd, and some of the keys to his successes in Tennessee. Bring your maps, questions, and ideas and we will have a discussion on the best way to find good public land, how to hunt that public land and how to take one of these public land giants that reside on many of our WMA's.

New to hunting what do you mean by deer being edge animals? Do you mean the edge of wood lines to open fields?

Used to hunt the paper companies property in Tn. Now they have all but vanished and a lot have been clear cut and look terrible.

I see a lot of interest in the duck hunting along the western border of the state. I don’t duck hunt and would not drive 8 hours to do so.

What is TWRA doing to try to get more land available for deer hunting?

Really enjoyed the video! Question: on many properties I hunt there can be good diversity on one end of the property but on the other side dynamic ridge systems with alot of secondary (spur) points. In a perfect scenario of course it would be best to find an area that has topo and edge but if it came down to a large chunk where it was spread out would you spend more time on diversity or topo? I say this because you often have hill country that drops down into river bottoms and sometimes I have a hard time deciding to basically hunt high or low

I have been doing my research as far locations to hunt, been doing the scouting on ONX hunt and all that. I have a question in regards to Old Hickory, is the reason that majority is only accesible by water is because of private lands surrounding it? Last year was my first time deer hunting and I fell in love with it but it was on private land, I want to give public land a try!

I’m 60 years old and I’m proficient with fire arms. I moved just north of Nashville 3 years ago. I’d like to take up deer hunting. Can you suggest a path. I’m from Miami and my parents were from a fishing town in Canada. So fishing is not a problem. I need help with direction for a deer hunting mentor. I can’t afford almost 4K for a weekend of hunting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
