Will plant life struggle in an ammonia high environment also? I have a 1000 gallon pond reading about 0.25 ppm ammonia currently and the fish are acting like they have ick, flashing, scratching and breaching. Been treating them with a broad spectrum disease treatment and high volume water changes and gravel clean out, but now losing minnows. The minnows always seem to die at the first stages of problems, as well as the plant life. Is my problem ammonia or disease? Anyone's advice on this please, thanks. ..

👍👍👍great video btw, liked. .

50% water change will cause shock. Only do 25%-30% water change at once.
Also, water plants and fish like Catfish help with the ammonia levels by either filtering the water (plants) or eating left behind food waete (Catfish). Bottom feeders are an excellent way to stabilize ammonia levels derived from food waste.
It's also good to make sure your tank has a great water flow. If your tank as "dead zones" with no flowing current, it could lead to a build up of food waste in that area which can change the water condition of the rest of the tank.

How about doing a reaquascaping can it be a factor in ammonia spikes? Do I need to reset the tank cycling to another month? I have sponger filter that is running for three weeks already.

Hey man. Thank you so much for your video. I bought an aquarium about 6 days ago as well as 6 gold fish. Super stressed at the moment. Will be getting a testing kit asap. Please advise what I can do to prevent anything happening to my fish. As my tank is basically brand new with no cycle that has been done. The pet shop only gave me this bottle with bacteria and said just put some in everyday for the first week.

My tap water has chloramine a which keeps registering ammonia even after double dosing Prime and adding Stability daily. My fish are fine and very active, but the readings are still concerning. Water changes do nothing with chloramine tap water that registers .5 ppm to 2.0 ppm ammonia at the tap. Any advice?

What if your tap has 2ppm ammonia after testing it and is the root cause to the ammonia spikes

I got a new aquarium about 3 weeks ago. we have had two fish that we started the tank with and we bought some angles and bala's to put in the tank from our local petco all of them died first we could not find the one angle fish it died and wedged its body under the bubble bar in the process it made the water toxic and killed the bala's and angle fish that was left. I have change the water my Ph is 7.0 but my Ammonia is high, I have done a 50% water change twice in the last week this happened a week ago. My NO2 levels are 1 and NO3 levels are 40. KH levels are 120 and Gh levels are 60. My tank is freshwater fish. Can you give me some advice. I have just started using Stress Zyme in the tank.

I had a cory pass before I even knew I got an ammonia spike. Next day one of my Harlequin Rasboras was a terrible faded version of his former self, and not overly active. Only then did I realise the problem and test the water. Pretty sure it's due to over feeding. I did a 30% water change, and re-tested, still a small amount of ammonia - just off yellow. So, I changed another 30% a few hours later and seems to have returned to zero. I will not feed them today, and begin again tomorrow with smaller amounts. Tank is clean. Relatively new. PH 7.5. Plenty of plant life.. My question is, what are the chances my most effected Harley will make a full recovery ? He's a lot more active this morning, and following the school a little more closely. Yesterday he wasn't interested at all. Some of the others seem a little faded also but he is by far the worst.

Great video, I have an established tank but my ammonia has been spiking these last couple of weeks. Don’t know why I’ve been doing water changes every 2-3 days. Zero nitrites. What could it be. Mini cycle? But why?
